The Department Chair of the School of Nursing is the chief academic and administrative officer of the School of Nursing and reports directly to the Dean of the College of Health Professions. The Department Chair is responsible for providing visionary leadership, strategic planning, and effective management and oversight of the School's academic programs, faculty, staff, students, and resources. The Department Chair also fosters a culture of excellence, innovation, and collaboration within the School, the College, the University, and the external community.

Job Responsibilities:

The Department Chair has responsibilities in the following areas:

  • Provide visionary and strategic direction for the School of Nursing in alignment with the University's mission, vision, and values.
  • Oversee the development, delivery, and evaluation of high-quality and innovative academic programs that meet the needs of diverse learners and the changing healthcare environment.
  • Ensure compliance with all accreditation standards and regulations for the School of Nursing and its programs.
  • Recruit, mentor, and evaluate faculty and staff, and support their professional development and scholarly activities.
  • Manage the budget and resources of the School of Nursing in a fiscally responsible and transparent manner.
  • Represent and advocate for the School of Nursing in various forums and committees at the University, College, local, state, and national levels.
  • Engage in fundraising, alumni relations, and community outreach activities to enhance the visibility and reputation of the School of Nursing.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with the administration of the University, College, other divisions or departments within the institution, related facilities, and the community.
  • Facilitate the development of long-range goals and objectives for the nursing program.
  • Maintain current knowledge of requirements pertaining to the nursing program and licensure.
  • Complete any additional duties as assigned by the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the College of Health Professions.

Job Requirements:

The candidate shall:

  • Possess an earned doctorate in nursing or a related field from an accredited institution
  • Hold a current and unencumbered Registered Nurse and Family Nurse Practitioner license to practice in the Commonwealth of Kentucky
  • Verify practice as a Registered Nurse for a minimum of 5 years
  • Exhibit a record of distinguished teaching, scholarship, and service in nursing education
  • Show a minimum of five years of progressive academic leadership experience in nursing education
  • Provide evidence of success in curriculum development, program evaluation, accreditation, and assessment.
  • Display effective communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrate a history of employee excellence.

Compensation: Commensurate with education and experience.
