Job Description
Darigold is looking for a Senior Environmental Manager to cover our locations in eastern Washington and western Idaho. The Senior Environment Manager is responsible for leading environmental regulatory compliance and best management practices through the implementation of the Darigold Environmental Management System (EMS) at Darigold's plants in designated regions. This position will work closely with the Senior Site Directors on the overall coordination and implementation of environmental programs to assure compliance with various regulatory requirements and expectations, including Darigold's environmental policies. This includes wastewater compliance, stormwater compliance, waste management, and air/GHG emission programs. This position is also expected to assist with emergencies, environmental incidents, and operational upsets when needed. The Sr Environmental Manager reports to the Corporate Director of Environmental Compliance.
What You Will Do
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local requirements governing environmental protection by staying current and informed on federal, state, and local rules and regulations. Lead environmental engineering projects as needed.
- Interfaces with regulatory agencies and plant staff as needed.
- Monitor environmental compliance data and ensure timely internal and external reporting and data input into Darigold's environmental management software platform. Advise Senior Site Directors and the corporate environmental director when permit or compliance issues develop.
- Respond and provide guidance and assistance to all emergencies.
- Implement all aspects of environmental investigations, data analysis, recurrence prevention programs, and continuous improvement procedures.
- Directly support the delivery of all environmental training for all levels of employees.
- Other environmental compliance duties as assigned by the Environmental Director.
Specific experience required: (The requirements listed below are representative of the qualities needed for the position, but are not intended to be all-inclusive.)
- Stormwater: Stormwater management permit compliance in Washington/Idaho (sampling, reporting, corrective actions and BMPs, treatment/impounding/infiltration, annual reports, and regulatory agency interfacing).
- Wastewater: Wastewater discharge permit compliance in Washington/Idaho (understanding permit terms and conditions, concentration/mass-based limits, generating DMRs, compliance incident investigations, spill response, and regulatory agency interfacing).
- Waste management: Waste disposal compliance in Washington/Idaho (universal and hazardous waste disposal regulations including generator storage limits, labeling, manifesting, disposal site assessments, employee training, recording keeping)
- GHG emissions: Climate Commitment Act compliance in Washington (baseline emissions, data validation processes and reporting, intensity calculations, emission allowances, purchased emission credits, WA State auction processes and procedures).
What You Bring:
- Professional communication skills and the ability to respond effectively to environmental compliance inquiries and/or complaints are of critical importance. Also, must be able to communicate under pressure. Team leadership skills are critical.
- Analyze data, write, and submit reports. Must be able to maintain environmental compliance software systems and utilize data to drive continuous improvement.
- Develop and deliver presentations on compliance topics to plant management, plant staff, and public groups when requested by the Sr Director of Environmental Compliance.
- Communicate technical and complex environmental protection concepts. A person in this position must be able to conduct technical training and engage employees in an effective learning experience.
- Pursue and productively participate in continuing technical education as deemed necessary by the Sr Director of Environmental Compliance.
Education, Experience, and Certifications
- Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Environmental Management, or a related field. A combination of an associate degree and directly related environmental compliance experience may be considered. Other technical degrees and/or experience combinations may also be considered.
- 5 to 7 years of directly related experience in environmental compliance in the food processing industry or a similar process industry is preferred, but not strictly required.

- Compensation range: $94,772.00-$142,158.00 (individual wage based on previous experience, knowledge, and skills)
