Job Description:
JOB SUMMARY
This is a technical position with individual responsibility for performing substantive procedural processed within the Bail Administration Office.
Assignments consist of specialized clerical work by displaying individual responsibility for performing essential Protection From Abuse/Protection of Victims of Sexual Violence or Intimidation procedural processes, typing court orders appointing Court Appointed Counsel, screening applicants for free legal counsel, data entry and coverage of the receptionist area when necessary.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
This position reports directly to the Assistant Court Administrator-Bail.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Provides clear and accurate instructions in the filing of Protection From Abuse Petitions, and Protection of Victims of Sexual Violence or Intimidation Petitions. 15%
Completes petitions, hearing notices and orders utilizing Protection from Abuse Database (PFAD) with information provided by victims of domestic violence, sexual violence, or intimidation. 20%
Presents Protection From Abuse Petitions and Protection of Victims of Sexual Violence or Intimidation to Judges and provides them with additional information upon request. 15%
Makes appropriate copies, types sheriff’s forms and files petitions with other offices. 5%
Provides information regarding other community resources available to victims, service procedures, and attorney representation. 5%
Types court orders regarding free legal counsel. 10%
Screens free legal counsel applications with clients to determine eligibility by comparing clients income with the financial eligibility guidelines provided by the Department of Health and Human Services for public defenders or court appointed counsel. 15%
Covers the front desk receptionist position for lunches and vacations and completes all duties of the receptionist. 5%
Answers telephone and directs calls to the appropriate persons or office. 5%
Attends seminars, meetings and training as made available regarding specific job responsibilities. 5%
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education equivalent to completion of high school or GED, including and/or supplemented by course work in standard business practices or clerical legal training.
Four years of clerical experience in a professional legal or court office setting, which has included substantial involvement with cases or other materials under the Court of Common Pleas’ jurisdiction.
Any combination of education and experience which is an acceptable substitute for the knowledge, skills, and abilities cited above.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Thorough knowledge of clerical practices and procedures governing documentation and processing of cases commonly employed in governmental, legal and/or court offices.
Thorough knowledge of English usage, grammar, spelling, and punctuation including terminology, as used in legal or court offices.
Knowledge of the Court of Common Pleas functions, objectives, programs and procedural requirements.
Knowledge of the procedures, policies, and statutes regarding the filing of Pro Se Protections from Abuse petitions.
Basic knowledge of the organizational relationships within the Court and related organizations.
REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS/CLEARANCES
This position requires a pre-employment background check as required by law or policy to perform the duties.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to sit sometimes for long periods of time.
The employee has to be able to communicate with court and non-court personnel. The employee is frequently required to go from one location to another ie. Courtroom, Chambers and/or non-court offices.
The employee must regularly lift and/or move judicial files weighing up to 10 pounds. Occasionally there may be some lifting involving boxes with case files.
This position requires the ability to operate a laptop or PC and/or any other general office equipment.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. (Office with typewriters/printers and light traffic)
