Description
The Group Fitness Instructor is responsible for leading group fitness classes in both land and aquatic environments. S/he provides participants with structured routines and general group fitness feedback, while maintaining a positive social atmosphere for all group fitness members.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Takes and records objective measurements, including vital signs as needed.
- Provides proper orientation and documentation.
- Assesses and educates clients and members regarding proper techniques, and on health and fitness related topics.
- Monitors clients and members for safe operation of exercise equipment.
- Leads group fitness classes, providing clients with structured routines and feedback, gauging intensity according to client tolerance.
- Cleans and sets up rooms for classes.
- Enforces "Rules and Regulations" to clients and members and reports serious infractions to the Supervisor and/or Director.
- Demonstrates knowledge of proper cleaning procedures to ensure safety and cleanliness of all wellness center equipment.
- Answers phones and performs clerical duties as needed.
- Provides general information about the Wellness Center, such as hours of operation, open and adult pool times, and specialty classes, etc.
- Attends department staff meetings.
- Maintains and updates knowledge and skills to provide safe, efficient fitness programs for clients/members.

Requirements
EDUCATION & TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
- Group Fitness Instructor Certification from NATA, ACE, AFAA, NSCA or other pertinent organization.
- Bachelors Degree in Exercise Science, Movement Science, Exercise Physiology, or Related field (preferred)
- Heartsaver/CPR Certification within 90 days of hire.
- Successful completion of a basic swimming and water rescue examination, administered by Gila Regional Medical Center, within 90 days of hire if employee will be utilizing the pool to conduct aquatic exercise classes.
WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Experience working with the public.
- Experience working with computers and other related office equipment.
