Position at South Coast Gynecologic Oncology

Job Title: Pharmacy Technician – Oncology Infusion
Location: South Coast Gynecologic Oncology, San Diego, CA
Job Type: Full-time | On-site Monday - Friday 
Pay Range: $24.00 - $28.00 per hour (Based on experience)
 
About Us:
South Coast Gynecologic Oncology is a busy, physician-led specialty clinic offering in-office chemotherapy within our on-site infusion suite. We are committed to delivering compassionate, high-quality care to patients facing gynecologic cancers. We are currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Pharmacy Technician to support our infusion services and join our collaborative care team.
 
Position Overview:
The Pharmacy Technician plays a vital role in preparing and managing chemotherapy and oral medications, maintaining a sterile and compliant environment, supporting infusion nursing staff, and handling administrative duties related to insurance and prior authorizations.
 
Key Responsibilities:
Pharmacy & Clinical Support
  • Prepare and label chemotherapy medications using sterile compounding techniques
  • Maintain a sanitary and compliant IV room and medication prep area
  • Manage and restock pharmaceutical inventory; order supplies as needed
  • Maintain accurate records of patient doses and medication mixtures in our EMR (EPIC)
  • Assist infusion RN and clinical team as needed
Administrative Support
  • Verify patient insurance eligibility and coordinate prior authorizations
  • Review labs and confirm patient appointments
  • Schedule chemotherapy education and infusion appointments with providers
  • Provide patients with treatment schedules and assist with drug financial assistance
  • Submit lab orders and coordinate services with outside infusion providers
  • Review and explain patient out-of-pocket estimates for chemotherapy services
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma required
  • Active California Pharmacy Technician License
  • Previous IV room pharmacy technician experience required
  • Strong knowledge of pharmacy terminology and calculations
  • Accurate computer and data entry skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a fast-paced, team environment
  • Working knowledge of Medicare, PPO, and HMO insurance plans
Preferred Experience:
  • Experience ordering and organizing drugs and supplies preferred
  • Medical office scheduling and referrals/authorizations
  • EPIC System
  • Excel proficiency
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English
