Description
The Vietnamese or Mandarin Teacher is responsible for planning and implementing a program which creates a classroom environment that develops in each student the skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing in the Vietnamese or Mandarin language.
Expectations, Educational Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Vietnamese or Mandarin, education, or a related field
- Experience teaching Vietnamese in a middle or secondary school setting
- Flexibility and a team-spirit work ethic
- Well developed interpersonal skills
- Fluency in the Vietnamese language
Preferred Qualifications
- Louisiana Certification specializing in Vietnamese or Mandarin
- Three or more years teaching experience in an urban school setting
- Experience in differentiating instruction, and supporting students with learning challenges
- Knowledge of or interest in the French language and culture

Requirements
Role and ResponsibilitiesThe duties of the Vietnamese/ Mandarin Teacher may include, but are not limited to the following tasks:
Instruction
- Providing instruction to students in middle school.
- Willingly assisting the instructional process in its many forms.
- Supporting school-wide instructional initiatives.
- Gathering student data through observation, dialogue, testing tools, etc., and designing strategies to meet student needs.
- Remaining current with Louisiana Student Standards and other instructional requirements.
- Attending Professional Development sessions.
Assessment
- Conducting regular formative and summative student assessment.
- Maintaining an accurate and current gradebook, tracking student data, and drafting report cards.
- Conducting school-wide benchmark assessments.
Other Duties
- Effectively communicating with school administrators, teachers, student service personnel, and parents regarding student performance and plans for improvement.
- Participating in Student Assistance Team (SAT) meetings as needed.
- Supporting students and administration in Positive Behavior Intervention and Support philosophy.
- Assisting students in adopting a behavior conducive to success in the classroom setting.
- Participating in faculty meetings and professional learning communities meetings.
- Assisting in orientation and open houses if requested.
- Modeling non-discriminatory practices in all activities.
- Being punctual, reviewing and following all Staff Handbook policies and procedures.
Community-Based Learning Initiatives
- Assisting in the delivery of curriculum that utilizes community resources to enrich the learning experiences of students.
