Job Description

Senior Underwriter

This position is located on our Montpelier, Vermont or Dallas, Texas campus.

This senior level incumbent will handle large face amount cases, while interacting with field personnel, and other more junior underwriters. Primary role will be to provide accurate and timely risk assessment and evaluation of life applications, renewals, or cancellations utilizing the Company's underwriting policies, guidelines and insurance laws and regulations.

JOB SUMMARY:

Underwriting of after-issue policy change requests by analyzing data and authorizing changes to policies, while protecting the bottom line of NLG and increase profitability.

This individual may also perform contestable reviews for claims and underwriting within the 2-year contestability period, providing real time feed-back as needed and protecting the bottom line of NLG.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Continues to build knowledge and expand knowledge base; keeping up to date on Underwriting trends and sharing this information with the Underwriting department. Has developed an expertise as a subject matter expert and continuously seeks information in this area. Confidently communicates, anticipates responses in a way that helps customers understand NLG policies and processes, maintaining strong relationships within and outside the organization.

CASE REVIEW & UNDERWRITES:

Independently and efficiently conduct reviews for after issue policy changes and contestable reviews by analyzing health-related data, using tools and third-party information (e.g., medical records, prescription databases, MIB follow ups, etc.).

GROWING AND MAINTAINING UNDERWRITING KNOWLEDGE BASE:

Seeks information and continually develops their knowledge skills.

COLLABORATES:

Communicates (verbal and written) with internal and external constituents to explain decisions while building relationships and demonstrating seamless service excellence.

PROVIDES TECHNICAL EXPERTISE:

Guides and educates others to improve quality, capability, and efficiencies.

EDUCATION:

5+ years industry experience required.

SKILLS:

The base compensation range represents the low and high end of the range for this position. Actual compensation will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to qualifications, skills, competencies, location, and experience. The range listed is just one component of our total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include an annual bonus, quarterly bonuses, commissions, and other long-term incentive compensation, depending on the position.
