Seasonal Sports Official (Youth Flag Football)
Parks and Recreation
Seasonal, Variable Hours, Non-Exempt
Must be 16 years or older. Uniforms provided.
Shift Days and Hours: Varied (Weeknights and Potential Weekends)
Compensation Rate: $17.50/hour
Closing Date: 11/01/2025
Position Purpose: The essential function of the Manhattan Parks and Recreation Department (MPRD) sports official is to officiate youth and/or adult games, events, and tournaments to maintain standards of play for applicable competitions facilitated through the MRPD.
Job Duties
- Officiate MPRD youth flag football games.
- Attend sport-specific trainings and meetings.
- Make judgements and instruct players on the rules of the game.
- Provide communication to and from coaches and participants.
- Inspect sporting equipment and/or examine participants to ensure compliance with event and safety regulations.
- Establish and maintain effective, professional working relationships with other employees,?department personnel, and the public (youth, coaches, and parents). Engage with these individuals in a helpful, courteous, and respectful manner.
- Maintain a safe and positive playing environment.
- Concentrate and clearly communicate in situations with multiple distractions.
- Effectively communicate principles of good sportsmanship.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Additional Qualifications
- Ability to learn sport rules and regulations
- Ability to make quick, impartial decisions under pressure
Preferred Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge of and experience with adult/youth sports, game rules, and regulations
Other Information?
- This is not a KPERS-covered position
- Seasonal position: Late August until early November
- Must pass a background check
Physical Demands / Work Environment
- Work facilities include Anneberg Park (outdoor recreational field setting)
- Work is performed weeknights and some weekends
- Exposure to varying weather conditions including sun, heat, rain, and wind
- Noise level and activity level will be varied
- Stands, walks, sits, uses hands, handles, feels, speaks, hears, climbs stairs, pushes, pulls, or lifts up to 50 pounds
