Job Description

WEEKEND (WOW) MT/MLT - every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday 05:30am - 6:00 pm.

Performs all laboratory functions as outlined with supervision until all necessary functions are learned and competency is achieved.  Performs various laboratory tests and procedures following policies and procedures established by the laboratory department and Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital.   Performs collects COC Urine Drug Screens; provides assistance to other MT’s, MLT’s, phlebotomists and Laboratory Director.  Maintains supply inventory for laboratory operations.

Education and Formal Training:  Must have successfully completed a clinical rotation in an approved school of Medical Technology and be registered or certified by NCA, ASCP, HEW or AMT as a Medical Technologist within the first year of employment, and meet the requirements for Medical Technologist as outlined in the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act of 1988, being qualified to perform High Complexity Testing as defined by CLIA 1988.  Completion of general and job specific competencies.  

Work Experience:  Only that defined by CLIA 1988 to perform High Complexity Testing.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:   High degree of integrity and studious habits.  An acute awareness of the work engaged in.  Acceptance of the demands on time and willingness to sacrifice in the interest of the profession.  Tact and understanding in dealing with patients.  Ability to willingly take direction from the Laboratory Director.   Responsible for maintaining confidentiality and compliance as mandated by  hospital  Policy.  Excellent customer relations skills.  Ability to work effectively with others, Ability to understand instructions and reason.  Performs in an accurate and precise manner in crisis and emergency situations when time is crucial.  Ability to coordinate eyes and hands to fingers rapidly and accurately in making precise movements with speed.  Ability to move the hands easily and skillfully.  Ability to move the fingers easily and skillfully.  Frequent contact with soap and water (hand washing and cleaning).
