Job Description

Thank you for your interest in an observership opportunity! Please read the information below carefully before applying:

NOTE: This opportunity is only available to individuals who attend an affiliated institution to Innovative Hematology, Inc. and have confirmed a specific staff member at IHI to serve as their preceptor.

What is an observership? 

As a nationally and internationally recognized hemophilia treatment center, the organization actively supports training for professional colleagues working in related settings and observerships for students considering a career as a physician. We acknowledge that in providing training and observership experiences we must ensure a safe and confidential environment for patients, staff and invitees.

What are the eligibility criteria?

To be eligible for an observership, you must meet one of the following requirements:

  • College student seeking exposure to the medical field or hematology
  • Demonstrated interest or current trainee in medical school, residency, or fellowship
  • Physician or other clinical provider from the U.S. or abroad seeking to expand their knowledge of related fields

What is the timeline for applying?

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis; however a minimum of 4-6 weeks notice is required due to clinical schedules and departmental criteria.

What is the length of an observership?

College students may observe for 1-2 days as determined by the organization's ability to meet the needs of the student.  Residents and fellows are generally allowed 2-4 weeks but may vary based on the objectives and availability of the department.

Required application components

NOTE:  You are only permitted one attempt to complete the application.  Please ensure you have all your documents prepared to upload.  This process takes approximately 15 minutes. 

  • Complete Online Application and Visiting Colleague/Student Agreement
  • Medical License Number if applicable
  • Upload Curriculum Vitae (CV), 1-2 pages in length highlighting your education and employment
  • Upload Letter of Support from Home Institution as a cover letter**
    • **not required for affiliates of IU Med School, MUCOM, Ascension St. Vincent/PMCH, Purdue University School of Pharmacy, Yale University Hematology Fellowship, Franklin College PA Program, or St. Joseph's University - Philadelphia PA Program

Upon acceptance, the following must be completed prior to first day of program:

  • Send Malpractice Insurance Certificate to hr@ihtc.org
  • Acknowledgement of Center guidelines by return email
  • Submission of photo or copy of current student picture ID
  • Completion of Healthstream module(s)
  • HIPAA log signature upon first day arrival

Failure to timely complete the following as outlined may result in delay or cancellation of observership.
