Job Description
InvestCloud is seeking a highly technical, detail-oriented Data Architect with deep experience designing and delivering data platforms for the financial services industry - especially U.S. Wealth Management. This is a hands-on architecture role for someone who thrives at the intersection of data modeling, engineering, and real-world delivery.
The ideal candidate is fluent in transactional systems (relational, NoSQL, caching strategies) and can shape scalable, performant data ecosystems that serve both operational and analytical needs.
What Makes a Great Data Architect
We're looking for a pragmatic, skilled architect who can turn messy, evolving business requirements into well-governed, well-modeled, and easily consumable data systems. You'll partner with engineering, product, and client teams to define models, patterns, and integration strategies that support everything from account-level operations to performance reporting and regulatory needs. If you're energized by solving complex data problems in a demanding industry - and know what it means to ship durable solutions - this is your role.
What You'll Do
- Architect with intent: Design and evolve scalable, high-performance data architectures for both transactional and analytical domains.
- Model the business: Create logical and physical data models for key wealth domains (accounts, positions, transactions, advisors, portfolios) and validate them against real-world use.
- Design for access: Collaborate with teams on access patterns across APIs, event streams, queries, and batch pipelines - ensuring the right structure and storage format supports each use case.
- Guide data structure choices: Make well-reasoned choices based on performance, usage, and governance needs.
- Lead integrations: Support data integration efforts across custodians, CRMs, portfolio management systems, and client reporting tools.
- Drive clarity: Document models, data flows, and lineage clearly - enabling self-service access and reducing rework or misunderstandings.
- Balance theory and pragmatism: Deliver in an agile, delivery-focused environment with a bias for action while applying sound data architecture principles.
- Partner for impact: Work closely with engineers, DevOps, product owners, and client stakeholders - making data architecture a shared concern, not an ivory tower.
Basic Qualifications
- 15+ years in the industry, with at least 8 years in data architecture, data engineering, or enterprise data design roles.
- Deep knowledge of transactional data design, normalization, and access strategies for OLTP and OLAP systems.
- Fluency in data ingestion and integration patterns, including batch and real-time ingestion, transformation, and distribution.
- Proven competency in performance optimization and tuning.
- Familiarity with U.S. Wealth Management data and workflows (accounts, trades, reconciliations, performance, custodial data feeds).
- Strong communication skills with the ability to translate architecture into actionable, understandable documentation and decisions.
Preferred Skills & Experience
- Experience with portfolio management or portfolio accounting systems (e.g., Orion, Tamarac, Black Diamond, APX).
- Exposure to custodian integrations (e.g., Schwab, Fidelity, Pershing) and their data formats.
- Experience supporting client reporting, tax lot accounting, or performance measurement systems.
- Familiarity with modern data management tools and best practices.
- Understanding of data mesh principles or "data product" thinking.
What Sets You Apart
- You are experienced and confident enough to drive solutions from architecture to implementation and production.
- You believe in documented clarity over tribal knowledge, helping others succeed by making good data architecture visible and usable.
- You bring both technical excellence and domain fluency - you understand data structures and why they matter in Wealth.
- You thrive in a collaborative, agile environment and enjoy making complex things simple.
