Job Description

Sr. Maintenance Shutdown Planner

In this role, the Sr. Maintenance Shutdown Planner will lead and manage all planning activities associated with plant shutdowns, turnarounds, and outages. This position requires strong technical expertise in both maintenance and construction to ensure shutdown events are executed seamlessly, with all departments working in alignment to deliver efficient and timely results. In this role you will collaborate closely with maintenance teams, contractors, technical program managers, engineers, and construction personnel to maximize equipment uptime and operational readiness. Additionally, this role will provide leadership and day-to-day oversight for a team of maintenance planners responsible for developing detailed job plans and preventive maintenance schedules across production lines.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Manage up to 5 maintenance planners, responsible for creating job plans and preventive maintenance scheduling on each production line
  • Conduct risk assessments before planned shutdown activities to identify and mitigate potential safety concerns and schedule limiters
  • Coordinate job plan packages from planners in each department (maintenance, construction, and engineering) to ensure no conflict of equipment, staffing, or space
  • Communicate complete job plan schedules to all affected parties using scheduling software
  • Collaborate with the operations team to ensure timely shutdown of equipment, and timely handover back to operations for startup
  • Continuously monitor and adjust shutdown schedules during each shutdown, and resolve issues that may cause delay in critical path
  • Communicate progress relative to schedule during shutdowns to all levels of the organization
  • Coordinate and manage any outsourced labor or skills needs
  • Produces post-assessment of the shutdown, including successes and improvement opportunities
  • Manage up to 5 maintenance planners, responsible for creating job plans and preventive maintenance scheduling on each production line

Desired Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience managing industrial projects, either in a maintenance or construction organization
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop high-performing maintenance planners, with a focus on accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS)
  • Experience with planning software (Microsoft Project, Wrike, P6, etc.)
  • Read/interrupt prints, drawings, and other technical publications
  • Advanced knowledge of electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems
  • Familiar with troubleshooting/repairing complex electrical and mechanical systems
