Job Description:

The Quality and Patient Safety Manager assists the regional director or assistant director in developing and implementing facility or regional programs that support: evidenced-based best practices, culture of safety, regulatory compliance, accreditation, process improvement, and policies that lead to improved clinical outcomes.

Scope

Responsible for assisting in the management of quality, patient safety, and performance improvement activities described in the Quality and Patient Safety Plan. Position may include responsibility for one or more facilities in a given region.

Job Essentials

Lead efforts to maintain the Medical Center's accreditation and regulatory compliance, including regulations set by the Joint Commission (as applicable), State of Utah Licensure, OSHA and CMS. The incumbent will foster and support full regulatory compliance for one or more facilities and monitor compliance to standards.

May oversee and be accountable for one or more quality programs for multiple facilities within the region, including the management of human resources, budget, and reporting.

Oversees the implementation of clinical program initiatives, including: core measures, clinical data abstraction, and patient safety efforts.

Provides consultation regarding quality improvement to department managers, PI teams, hospital employees and physicians.

Ensures Quality Consultants are knowledgeable and utilize quality improvement methodologies in supporting quality activities and facilitating departments in developing and implementing quality plans.

Manage the implementation of the Quality and Patient Safety Plan sections of which the incumbent has direct oversight. Monitors and assists in designing departmental indicators and patient quality reviews. Encourages use of that data for identification of opportunities for improvement. Responsible for assisting in the trending and tracking of identified variances and seeking and supporting resolution.

Integrates quality improvement information through multi-disciplinary teams, medical staff and Hospitals Governing Board.

Collaborates with Regional and Intermountain Healthcare Quality Managers.

Develops positive interpersonal relations with managers, employees and physicians in order to reduce variances related to patterns of care and conduct an effective quality management program to promote a continuous quality improvement atmosphere, including promoting and facilitating effective communication.

Review, coordinate and document quality improvement activities of medical staff. Assist them in developing regulatory compliance including composition of applicable bylaws, rules, regulations and policy.

Accountable for the timely and accurate preparation of reports for appropriate medical staff departments and committees concerning quality improvement / patient safety variances and practices across the patient process of care. The reports will include the findings, conclusions, recommendations, actions and follow-up of actions.

Fosters an environment of professionalism and employee engagement, including a culture where employee input is valued and recognized. Ensures communication between the Regional Quality Director and front line staff.

Develops, mentors, and coaches staff to confirm and increase staff competency, and to ensure a sufficient numbers of competent staff are available to meet service needs.

Anticipates and plans for changes in staffing levels and expertise based on possible changes to regulatory reporting and compliance expectations. Works with the Regional Quality Director in identifying succession planning needs and candidates, and encourages staff preparedness for taking on new responsibilities.

Under the direction of the Regional Director of Quality & Patient Safety, contributes to the development of the department strategic plan.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution (degree will be verified).

3 years of experience in Quality, Performance Improvement or Patient Safety including 2 years in a leadership role.

2 years of experience with regulations/standards and accreditation survey processes for State/Fed Agencies, The Joint Commission etc.

  • and -

2 years in a role requiring effective decision-making skills and the ability to work autonomously, communicate effectively, and manage frequent variations in workload.

  • and -

Proven experience in facilitating Quality Improvement initiatives using industry standard methodologies.

  • and -

Ability to articulate understanding of Healthcare Benchmarking and appropriate selection of metrics for improvement projects.

  • and -

Ability to use word processing, spreadsheets and presentation software.

Preferred Qualifications

2 years or more of nursing work experience

RN transplant work experience

CPHQ Certification.

3 years working in the Quality / Performance Improvement Field.

Management experience.

  • and -

Lean 6 Sigma training and experience or completion of Intermountain' s Advanced Training Program.

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.

$37.98 - $58.61
