Job Description

Position Overview:

The 5th-7th Grade Social Studies Teacher will engage students in understanding history, geography, civics, and culture. The teacher will inspire critical thinking, empathy, and a deeper appreciation for global perspectives.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver engaging social studies lessons aligned with state standards and the school's curriculum.
  • Teach topics such as world history, U.S. history, geography, and civics.
  • Use primary and secondary sources to develop analytical and critical-thinking skills.
  • Create assessments to monitor student understanding and adapt instruction accordingly.
  • Foster a classroom environment that values diversity, respect, and inquiry.
  • Serve as a homeroom teacher, providing social-emotional support and building a sense of community among students.
  • Communicate with families and provide regular updates on student progress.
  • Participate in professional learning communities.
  • Write lesson plans and enter grades weekly.
  • Participate in evening events, student conferences, concerts, and other family events.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to align curriculum and share resources.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in education, history, or a related field; master's degree preferred.
  • State teaching certification in social studies (or ability to obtain certification).
  • Experience teaching middle school students, particularly in grades 5, 6 or 7.
  • Strong knowledge of NGSS (Next Generation History/Social Studies Standards) and best practices in science instruction.
  • Commitment to fostering a love of history, reading and writing in students.

Compensation

60,000 - 80,0000 per year
