Island Health is searching for an experienced RN-Education Coordinator for our Patient Services department at our hospital in Anacortes, WA. 

Work Schedule:

RN-Education Coordinator Job Responsibilities:

  • Conducts a needs assessment in clinical departments in partnership with the Clinical Education Coordinator and department leaders.
  • Assists in the development and coordination of the Annual Skills Fair to include annual required competencies and additional training based on needs of nursing departments
  • Chairs the Nursing Education committee and meets regularly to plan and organize education activities.
  • Assists department managers in developing competency checklists for all nursing positions for improvement of skills and retention of knowledge.  Provide competency checklist to managers for use in annual evaluations.
  • Supports the orientation of new nursing staff to the organization through classes, mentorship and follow up.
  • Supports the development of the RN preceptor role and assists in the evaluation of new hire readiness for independent patient care.
  • Provides educational opportunities that benefit nursing and encourage improvement in patient care.
  • Teaches educational content as needed and/or as assigned within clinical expertise to facilitate orientation, mentorship, staff development and safe practice.
  • Identifies and recruits internal and external resources for educational activities.
  • Coordinate educational activities such as continuing education credit courses, in-services and nurse residency program.
  • Ensures that nursing programs are congruent with organizational mission, values and goals and reflects the Island Hospital Promise.
  • Maintains required educational and/or clinical competencies.
  • Seeks opportunities to develop nursing staff in various roles
  • Role models and promotes the concept of lifelong learning.

Job Requirements:

  • Must maintain current RN license issued by the WA Department of Health.
  • Must maintain BLS certification, ACLS certification.
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years nursing experience

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

The work of this position is performed inside, exposing the employee to indoor environmental conditions, protected from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.  The employee may be exposed to dust, pollens, pollutants, fumes, communicable diseases, bodily fluids, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations and other conditions common a health care environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

While performing the responsibilities of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand for extended periods of time; push, pull and reach; occasionally bend, sit, stoop and stretch. The employee will need full range of body motion, including handling and lifting of patients, should have the hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity needed to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator and medical equipment. Normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare and communicate appropriate reports are required; specific vision requirements: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to focus. Occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
