Clinical Instructors serve as a liaison between PK-12 schools and the University in addition to serving as an instructional coach to Teacher Candidates through cycles of guidance and feedback on Teacher Candidate planning, instruction, assessment, and professionalism throughout the clinical experience.

Primary Duties:

  • Observe and provide instructional coaching to Teacher Candidates across the clinical experience, provide structured feedback, submit observation reports and assessments by determined deadlines.
  • Communicate and work directly with Teacher Candidates, PK-12 Mentor Teachers, PK-12 Administrators, Clinical Placement Coordinators, and The Director of GYO Graduate Teacher Certification.
  • Create Improvement Plans as necessary for Teacher Candidates experiencing challenges in their clinical experience.
  • Submit monthly travel reimbursement claims.

Required Qualifications:

  • 4 or more years of 6-12 teaching experience as the teacher of record, and current possession of licensure or eligibility for teacher licensure.
  • Master's degree in educational field.
  • Ability to mentor Teacher Candidates, providing direct on-going feedback to support professional educator dispositions and instructional growth.
  • Willingness and ability to travel for instruction, supervision, and collaboration with stakeholders to assigned PK-12 school districts.
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication, organization, and conceptualization of teacher practices and instructional frameworks.
  • Competency with digital tools (i.e., Zoom, Google Drive, Microsoft Word, PDFs, Blackboard) for communication, providing feedback, and documentation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in urban/diverse schools and communities.
  • Experience with culturally and linguistically sustaining pedagogy.
  • Experience mentoring and coaching pre-service and/or new teachers.
  • Willingness and ability to teach using multiple modes of instruction including in-person, hybrid, and online courses within the GYO GTC program.

Other Required Items:

  • Successfully complete GVSU's online and hybrid training.
  • Participating in necessary GYO Graduate Teacher Certification Meetings and other CECI functions as needed.

Working conditions: Travel is required. Some evening/weekend work may be required.

Employment is part-time, and based on two consecutive semesters. Compensation rates vary and are based on assigned number of Teacher Candidates and clinical experience requirements.

This position is flexible in workload and work schedule. Clinical Instructors are required to travel to PK-12 school sites and have access to a reliable vehicle, personal laptop computer, and smartphone. Mileage reimbursement for travel to PK-12 schools and a GVSU Parking Pass are provided.
