Job Summary:

The Minnesota Star Tribune is looking for a Software Engineer to join our Product Engineering teams that build the external and internal web services that power our digital news platform. As a Software Engineer, you will be responsible for building, designing, and maintaining frontend and backend services for serving news to our customers as part of a collaborative, inclusive, and diverse engineering department.

An ideal candidate has a solid foundation of technical skills, especially in web and cloud technologies, but wants to continue to learn and grow while collaborating with their peers. This is a hybrid position that requires someone who can work in-office 3 days per week.

What you'll do:

• Build, design, and maintain software services using TypeScript/Next.js with guidance of peers, managers, and our technical architect.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product managers and designers to gather requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
• Deliver features in sprint cycles with frequent deployments to production.
• Participate in code reviews and pair programming with engineers across our teams, including Data and AI Lab.

You should have:

• 2+ years of software engineering or equivalent experience.
• Experience writing production-ready TypeScript code using frameworks such as Next.js, React, and NestJS.
• Familiarity with backend technologies, including RESTful and GraphQL APIs, and experience integrating frontend applications with backend services.
• Proficient with Git and GitHub.
• Knowledge of UI design patterns, principles, and best practices.

Nice to haves:

• Knowledge of microservices and distributed systems architecture
• Familiarity with testing frameworks (Jest, Cypress, Selenium)
• Knowledge of cloud infrastructure, AWS preferred
• Familiarity with cross-platform mobile application development

Salary/Wage Range

$110,000 - $120,000 / year

Compensation for the role will depend on several factors, including a candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies and experience and may fall outside of the range shown.
