Job Summary
The nursing assistant will work under the direction of the Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse. Job duties may include providing for activities of daily living by assisting with serving meals, feeding patients as necessary and providing fresh water and nourishment between meals. Nursing assistants will also assist patients with personal hygiene and will provide for personal hygiene in patients who are unable to assist themselves. Nursing assistants will provide patient comfort, assist in transporting patients, answering patient call lights, ambulating, turning, and positioning patients, and reporting observations to the patient's Nurse. The nursing assistant will document actions completed as appropriate. Follow the policies and procedures of the organization. Protect patient information. Nursing assistants will update their knowledge by participating in educational opportunities. Requires the knowledge, technique, and communication skills to therapeutically meet the needs of assigned patients. Must be able to identify each patient's age-specific needs and provide appropriate care.
Job Specification
Minimum Education Required
- A high school graduate or equivalent.
Minimum Experience Required
- 1 year Medical-Surgical preferred.
Licensure/Certification Required
- Successful completion of an approved Certified Nursing Assistant Program preferred.
- Must be BLS certified required (or obtain within one month of hire).
Skills
- A commitment to service excellence and performance improvement.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with legible penmanship and computer knowledge.
- Possess the ability to work collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary team, communicate with RN/GN staff to report changes in patient's conditions.
- Ability to provide direct patient care to the Med-Surg patient.
