Job Description

About the Company

At General Matter, we’re strengthening America’s capacity in nuclear energy to create a new set of possibilities, from generating clean energy at scale to forging energy security.

With nuclear energy powering the next wave of American progress, we’re ensuring our country has the fuel it needs for the next generation of reactors, no matter what’s happening around the world.

We are backed by top tier investors. Our lean, world-class team of engineers and operators is applying a first-principles approach to solving the problem of nuclear fuel production. We are a mission-driven company with a culture of urgency, accountability and transparency.

About This Role

We are seeking a Visual Design Coordinator to lead the development and management of detailed technical drawings, 3D models, and visual documentation that support the design, planning, and communication of infrastructure and systems for a nuclear fuel cycle facility. This role bridges engineering accuracy with visual clarity, ensuring that all designs meet technical requirements, regulatory standards, and internal quality expectations. The ideal candidate brings a strong foundation in CAD drafting, BIM modeling, and design coordination, as well as the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams in a fast-paced, highly technical environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Produce and manage high-quality 2D and 3D drawings and models for facility layouts, process systems, P&IDs, and electrical schematics using tools like AutoCAD, Revit, or SolidWorks.
  • Translate engineering concepts and markups into technical drawings and visual packages that communicate system design, layout, and function.
  • Maintain strict control over drawing revisions, version history, and design documentation workflows.
  • Implement and support BIM practices, ensuring model integrity, consistency, and compatibility across disciplines.
  • Collaborate with engineers, architects, and project managers to refine designs and resolve coordination issues early in the design process.
  • Conduct field verification/site walks to confirm as-built conditions and align visual documentation with physical systems.
  • Assist with visual storytelling for internal and external audiences through rendered views, schematic presentations, or exploded diagrams.
  • Ensure compliance with design codes, nuclear industry standards, and regulatory guidelines in all visual documentation.
  • Stay up to date on visual design tools and standards (e.g., IFC, COBie, ISO) to improve workflow efficiency and data integration.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree in Drafting, Architecture, Engineering, or a related field. Relevant competence and experience may be considered as an alternative to this requirement.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or other 2D/3D design and modeling platforms.
  • Strong understanding of industrial systems (e.g., piping, structural steel, mechanical assemblies).
  • Familiarity with documentation standards and drawing conventions for engineering or construction environments.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Evidence of exceptional ability (prior projects, portfolio of work, completed products, etc.)
  • Experience in a fast-paced engineering environment or a highly technical role requiring a resourceful, entrepreneurial approach to complete tasks within tight timeframes or budget constraints.
  • Experience in a regulated environment such as nuclear, aerospace, or pharmaceutical manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with BIM coordination workflows, IFC data structures, and COBie standards.
  • Working knowledge of ANSI/ASME/Y14.5, AIA Layering Standards, or IAEA/NRC design criteria.
  • Comfortable working in fast-paced startup environments with a high degree of independence and ownership.

Additional Requirements:

  • Ability to work extended hours and weekends as necessary.

Compensation and Benefits

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.

Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at General Matter. You may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of company stock options.
