Position Summary:

The BSA Analyst will assist in the implementation and administration of all aspects of the Bank Secrecy Act compliance program and assist with various assignments supporting the Compliance Program of the bank, under the guidance of the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) Officer. This position shall advise the BSA Officer and other Risk and Compliance staff of compliance issues and work with the team to execute existing controls to mitigate risks.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Identify, review, and investigate activities of high-risk customers of the bank.

  • Investigate and resolve suspicious activity alerts customer due diligence alerts and OFAC alerts.

  • Complete enhanced due diligence reviews for high-risk customers and customer behavior reviews.

  • Identify potential weakness or gaps in the BSA/AML automated software solution to ensure integrity of the system in the normal course of system upgrade(s).

  • Prepare and file suspicious activity reports (SARs).

  • Support activities related to gathering and maintaining the bank's listing of all designated exempt person(s), along with all supporting documentation as required by FinCEN.

  • Assist, track, and respond to IRS and State of Maine levies, subpoenas, and court orders.

  • Assist the BSA Officer in gathering information for audits and regulatory exams.

  • Review and update day-to-day compliance operating procedures that support the various activities within the department.

  • Provide input to BSA Officer on control weaknesses, policy enhancements, and training needs to ensure bank-wide compliance.

  • Provide support to all stakeholders company-wide relating to compliance or other project initiatives.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree or high school diploma

  • 1-3 years general banking or regulatory agency experience, with an emphasis on compliance and/or operations

  • Knowledge of all Microsoft Office products, especially Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated familiarity with banking systems and operations

  • Familiarity with the internet to research compliance and customer-related issues

Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with ability to communicate effectively with customers and bank staff at all levels

  • Demonstrated ability to think critically and strategically with sound analytical and problem-solving skills and ability to review and analyze data
