Overview:

Sentara is hiring a Diagnostic Medical Physicist for a full-time position. This role is based Charlottesville, VA and services surrounding sites in the Blue Ridge region. This is an onsite position with Monday through Friday schedule from 8AM to 430PM with some variation of hours required for business needs.

We are expanding our team in this region due to growth in the department and organization.

Sentara has more than 500 sites of care including 12 hospitals, medical groups, imaging services, therapy, outpatient surgery centers, and urgent care centers. Our Medical Physics Team services all areas within the system.

Diagnostic Medical Physicist will maintain knowledge in all aspects of diagnostic imaging physics, including new technologies and practices. Proficiency in all diagnostic radiology modalities to include and not limited to: CT, Mammography, MRI, Nuclear Medicine, PET, Ultrasound, and general x-ray (radiography and fluoroscopy) to meet American College of Radiology accreditation and VA and NC regulatory requirements.  Must have knowledge of radiation safety principles to include and not limited to radioactive materials licensing, patient radiation dose calculations, evaluation of outcomes related to patients’ fluoroscopy exposure due to Interventional Radiology, etc. Radiation shielding design, as needed for new and replacement radiological equipment.  Will be teaching radiology physics to radiology residents and radiation safety education for staff and patients.  Builds partnerships and works collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives.

Education:  

  • CAMPEP accredited program Master’s degree or higher in Medical Physics Required

  • CAMPEP accredited residency in diagnostic medical physics if graduate degree was completed after July 1, 2013. Must be actively working toward American Board of Radiology (ABR)

  • Or, actively working as a diagnostic radiology medical physicist for at least five (5) years, if graduate degree and ABR board certification were completed before July 1, 2013

Certification/Licensure:

  • American Board of Radiology (ABR) Medical Physics Required

  • Private Inspector (CT, mammography, and general x-ray) required

  • American College of Radiology (ACR) Accreditation Program Medical Physicist for CT, Mammography, MRI, Nuclear Medicine, PET, and Ultrasound Required

Experience:

  • At least two (2) years clinical residency/training in Diagnostic Medical Physics 

  • 5 years of Medical Physics experience preferred

  • Radiation Safety experience preferred

  • Proficiency in all diagnostic radiology modalities required

  • Team collaboration and communication skills required
