Design Validation Engineer
Essential Duties:
As an early member of a new engineering team, you will play a key role in designing and executing tests to support the development of a new product at Redwood Materials. Your responsibilities will span across mechanical, electrical, and software engineering domains to ensure robust product validation. You will be involved in all phases of the hardware development lifecycle, from early design validation and long-term reliability testing to final process validation. This role requires a hands-on, proactive attitude paired with a methodical and analytical approach to problem-solving.
Responsibilities Will Include:
- Design, set up, and execute validation tests for a new electromechanical product.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (design, reliability, and abuse engineers) to generate FMEAs and test plans.
- Specify and design physical test infrastructure such as fixtures, sensors, actuators, chambers, and power supplies.
- Develop and maintain test automation tools using Python.
- Conduct failure analysis through teardown and root cause investigations; document and report findings clearly.
- Analyze complex test data, report findings, and drive system enhancements.
Desired Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
- 5+ years of technical experience in test engineering or a related role.
- Experience working with high-voltage systems (400-2000VDC and 480-800VAC).
- Deep technical expertise in at least one aspect of test engineering, with comfort working across disciplines (mechanical, electrical, software).
- Proficiency in object-oriented programming, with Python preferred.
- Experience developing scalable tools, infrastructure, and design practices for test engineering teams.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to engage effectively with stakeholders at all organizational levels, including executives.
- A get-it-done attitude; no job is too big or too small.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to perform the essential job functions consistent safely and successfully with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
- Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards
Working Conditions:
- Environment, such as office or outdoors.
- Ability to work in challenging working conditions which may include exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, and temperature extremes, while protected by PPE, for extended periods of time.
- Essential physical requirements, such as climbing, standing, stooping, or typing.
- Occasional work weekends, nights, or be on-call as a regular part of the job.
- Occasional travel requirements.
