Job Description

Job Summary

The Pharmacy Lab Technician supports the preparation and packaging of compounded medications in accordance with USP <795>, <797>, and <800> guidelines. This role includes measuring ingredients, performing cleanroom procedures, maintaining records, and ensuring all lab work complies with quality and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparing sterile and non-sterile compounded medications under pharmacist supervision
  • Measure, weigh, and mix ingredients following approved formulas and procedures
  • Operate in compliance with USP standards, aseptic technique, and gowning requirements
  • Maintain cleanroom and compounding areas in a sterile and orderly manner
  • Perform environmental monitoring and cleaning tasks
  • Label, package, and document compounded preparations accurately
  • Maintain logs for lot numbers, batch records, and ingredient tracking
  • Report any deviations, contamination risks, or inventory discrepancies to supervising staff

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or certificate in Pharmacy Technology, Lab Sciences, or a related field
  • Valid California Pharmacy Technician License (required)
  • 1–3 years of experience in a compounding pharmacy, lab, or cleanroom setting
  • Familiarity with USP <795>/<797>/<800> practices and aseptic handling
  • Strong attention to detail and manual dexterity for handling small components
  • Ability to follow SOPs and maintain thorough documentation

Preferred Skills

  • Prior experience in sterile compounding or 503A/503B facilities
  • Knowledge of lab equipment such as balances, mixers, or laminar flow hoods
  • Certification in sterile compounding (e.g., PTCB's CSPT or media fill validation)
  • Proficiency in pharmacy compounding software or batch tracking systems
