Job Description
The City of Florence is looking for a full-time Code Enforcement Officer on the Community Support Services division within the City's Public Services Department.
The City of Florence Public Services Department is a regional leader in the public works industry. The Department is composed of nine divisions: Community Support Services, Infrastructure Support Services, Transportation & Storm Water, Drinking Water, Grounds Maintenance, Waste Water, Parks & Recreation, Building Maintenance, and Fleet Services. Public Services works diligently to foster a culture that is positive, driven, and selfless in meeting the needs of our residents, businesses, and visitors. The successful candidate will be vital in moving the department along the path toward improving the City's quality of life. The job is challenging and rewarding while leveraging ordinances and regulations to maintain and improve the quality of life and property values within the City. You'll be expected to continually develop and master new skills to support the progressive nature of the department. Responsibilities:
Enforcement of nuisance, property maintenance, zoning, occupational license, storm water, water system regulations.
Act as a representative of the citizens of Florence in solving complaints and responding to requests for service.
Issue Courtesy Notices and Uniform Citations.
Strong customer service skills.
Present cases to the Code Enforcement Board.
Perform field inspections.
Regularly tour the City to proactively identify violations.
Maintain accurate case records and files.
Strong problem-solving skills.
Qualifications
Associate's degree in Public Administration, Construction Management, Planning, Public Relations, or related field, supplemented by two years of progressively responsible work experience involving extensive public contact, or any combination of education, training, and experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities to effectively perform the duties of the position.
Must possess a valid driver's license and remain insurable to operate City vehicles.
Must have ability to learn legal requirements relating to code enforcement.
Must have ability to enforce ordinances with firmness and tact.
Must be highly skilled in business math, grammar, spelling and punctuation.
Must be skilled in using modern computing systems and EAM programs.
Ability to: establish and maintain effective working relationships with City employees, government officials and the general public; communicate effectively orally and in writing; understand and carry out oral and written instructions; be dependable; initiate action and be resourceful; solve problems and be decisive; prioritize and accomplish assigned goals and objectives; manage time effectively; maintain important records and communication accurately, efficiently, and confidentially; exercise efficiency, thoroughness, accuracy and neatness; exercise integrity, patience, courtesy, diplomacy and tactfulness; exercise sound reasoning, good judgment and common sense; maintain professional conduct, demeanor and appearance when representing the City
