Job Description

The Risk Specialist (Hybrid) applies risk analysis techniques and knowledge to the development, assessment, execution, and reporting of the risk management program. They effectively lead one or more specialty areas of the risk management program as applicable to the property and casualty insurance industry.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and assess business areas and other contingency risk profiles, risk matrices, risk scorecards, and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Assist divisions in developing their risk mitigation strategy/plans and ensure planning is integrated within the corporate strategy, risk appetite and risk tolerance statements.
  • Moderate-level user and coordinator with the Logic Manager GRC software.
  • Lead/manage complex ERM-related projects of a technical or non-technical nature.
  • Assist with Corporate Insurance Program including scoping, quote comparisons and vendor management.
  • Mentor, train, and assist junior staff.
  • Assist management in the development of RM (and ERM) vision, strategy, key internal and external reporting metrics, and develop methodologies for the assessment of risk throughout the organization.
  • Lead/manage one or more specialty areas associated with the development, scoping, conduct, and reporting of the risk register.
  • Lead one or more specialty areas including the review, approval, and analysis of work performed by others in the area.
  • Critically examine work processes to suggest and implement changes and gain efficiencies.
  • Research, analyze, and develop periodic updates for delivery to the various committees, working groups, or associate sub-committees.
  • Utilize PC based systems and software to compile and prepare reports, graphs and charts of developed data.
  • Research, prepare, edit regulatory documentation for mandatory reporting purposes.
  • Member of the Incident Management Team.
  • Assist BCDR in development of thought-provoking scenarios and stress tests and facilitate tabletop exercises and other drills, risk management awareness training and education.
  • Continuing education to obtain and maintain professional and insurance industry certifications.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Experience:
    • Associate degree in business, management or similar discipline preferred.

OR

  • Education:
    • 5 years enterprise risk management experience.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Moderate understanding of business continuity management and resiliency within the organization.
  • Advanced understanding of how various business areas manage risk within an organization.
  • Working knowledge of property & casualty insurance, reporting methodologies, and technical programs necessary for the development, assessment, and execution of risk management programs.
  • Good understanding of the Company’s lines of business, the activities/interactions with support functions, and company philosophy and goals.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to read, understand and apply NYS insurance laws, regulations and mandates, insurance and other industry guidelines, and the RM professional practices identified by the Risk Management Society (RIMS) and other risk industry sources.
  • Detail oriented, organizational, time management, prioritization, meet deadlines, and multi-task skills.
  • Logical thinking and analytical skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Available to work additional hours as business needs dictate.

Payband 5 / 40 hours per week

Salary: $51,209 - $71,593
