Job Description

ABOUT ACHIEVERS:

Achievers Early College Prep Charter School (AECP) is New Jersey's first public charter school

for students in middle school and high school that provides them with the unique opportunity to

pursue one of four STEAM pathways (Health Sciences, Digital Media, Audio Engineering

and Cisco Computer Networking). Students can have access to a program that allows them to

earn up to 60 college credits, NOCTI credentials and workplace training. AECP is

determined to ensure that students can enhance their journey through high school and graduate

with content mastery, skills, and experiences that are essential to the current marketplace

and the world beyond.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

The Crossing Guard is responsible for managing and directing pedestrian traffic, ensuring the safety of children and other pedestrians as they cross streets. This position requires a strong commitment to safety, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work in varying weather conditions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor traffic flow at designated crosswalks, during school hours.
  • Safely assist children and pedestrians in crossing streets.
  • Use hand signals and signage to direct traffic and communicate with drivers.
  • Report any unsafe conditions or incidents to school officials or local authorities.
  • Remain alert and vigilant while on duty.
  • Engage with students and parents to promote safety awareness.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times.
  • Attend training sessions as required.
  • Reports to the Ops Director.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in a safety or community service role is a plus.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and make quick decisions in high-pressure situations.
  • Must pass a background check.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to walk and traverse streets and sidewalks.

Working Conditions:

  • Outdoor work in various weather conditions.
  • Part-time hours, typically during morning and afternoon school commute times.

Hours:

  • 7am-8 am and 3pm-4pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday
  • 7am-8 am and 12:30pm-1:30pm Wednesday

COMPENSATION:

● 17.00 per hour

● This is a ten month position with compensation being determined in accordance with

the appropriate negotiated agreement.
