SUMMARY

In support of Therapy Services, the Therapy Aide is responsible for following the direction of licensed therapists.  The Therapy Aide assists with scheduling and performs the related administrative duties; monitors office procedures; resolves problems through collaboration with pertinent contacts.  The Therapy Aide must always maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to professional standards, hospital policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements at all times. The therapy aide is a customer-service and patient care professional that assists therapists with patient care, under direct supervision.  The Therapy Aide assists with scheduling and performs administrative duties under the supervision of therapists and the Director of Therapy Services. The Therapy Aide performs cleaning, organizing, supply ordering, and work order entry.  This position is responsible for managing competing demands, prioritizing tasks, and effectively organizing information to facilitate optimal office operations and patient care.

AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Planning and Prioritizing

  • Identifies and prioritizes a variety of support functions, i.e., stocking of supplies, cleaning and maintenance of equipment, and patient care.

Information Gathering

  • Assists the director in data tracking and product research as requested.    

Decision-Making

  • Assists multiple staff in patient care delivery without interruption of care or compromising patient safety.    

Communication

  • Communicates with therapists regarding patient’s response to modalities and exercises.
  • Addresses patient’s questions and concerns appropriately.    

Technical Proficiency

  • Delivers modalities and supervises exercises for patients as specified by the therapist.
  • Assists the therapist as requested.
  • Provides support to the staff including but not limited to cleaning, changing linens, monitoring equipment, ordering supplies, stocking supplies, filing, photocopying, scheduling, registration, and answering phones.
  • Performs any and all functions related to exercise class administration, with appropriate training and/or certification.
  • Performs any and all functions related to a land or aquatic exercise program, under the direction of the therapist.    

Teamwork

  • Escorts patients to the treatment rooms and/or pool.
  • Actively participates in department and Whitman Hospital and Medical Clinics marketing and promotional activities.

  • Participates in the quality improvement effort.

  • Actively pursues educational opportunities through staff in-services and journals to maintain current perspective of the profession.

  • Demonstrates the ability to care for a reasonable patient workload.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Demonstrates excellent communication skills.
  • Appropriate interpersonal skills to communicate with patients, families, and staff and to perform activities requiring courtesy and tact. 
  • CPR certified in AHA BLS or the ability to become certified within 30 days of employment.

Preferred

  • Previous experience as a Therapy Aide.
  • College coursework completion related to Therapy.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This position is primarily worked in a clinical environment. The position will require the ability to lift, and carry, up to 50 pounds and push or pull over 50 pounds. The position will require bending, twisting, squatting, reaching, reaching overhead, sitting and standing frequently. Occasionally the position requires climbing, kneeling and crawling. The position requires continuous finger dexterity and fine manipulation. All basic life functions such as hearing, seeing, speaking, standing and walking are required.

The employee must demonstrate the ability to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Pay Range:

$20.00 - $35.00

Compensation: New hires should expect to start at the lower end of the range; actual pay offered will vary based on years of experience.
