This position has managerial and overall responsibility of Mechanical CAD design for New Product Development. Position requires a highly self-motivated and organized individual driven to maintain engineering excellence and strives to lead a well-balanced and engaged team. Specific Responsibilities:
Leadership:
Create an environment of positive energy, engagement, and accountability in which the staff has the courage to make tough decisions and empower the team to execute.
- Motivate staff and provide technical direction and guidance, as well as hands-on project management, recognizing the role as that of manager, coach, and support resource.
- Ensure the roles and responsibilities of associates are clearly defined and communicated to them. Review and appraise the qualifications and work performance records of each associate periodically, as prescribed by company policy.
- Build and manage a high-quality CAD Design team to keep pace with the company’s
growth and philosophy of high value for intellectual capital.
- Responsible for ensuring associates are following best practices, meeting established quality standards, and collaborating on new technologies and process improvements.
- Communicate effectively to senior management, peers, associates as well as cross- functional groups and teams.
New Product Introduction:
Maintain and improve a culture of new product introduction with streamlined NPD processes and global CAD best practices.
- Work within a gated process, incorporating the “voice of the customer”, to create
robust CAD models and quality products for downstream users.
- Support, train, and lead the development of moderately complex parametric components, assemblies, drawings, layouts, and specifications with sound understanding of the design intent and fundamental understanding of manufacturing processes.
- Support the globalization of standard modeling practices in CAD and use of PLM & PDM.
- Coordinate with Engineering Leadership to ensure new products are created that exceed customer requirements.
- Foster innovation in the development of new and existing products, identify and lead process improvements including software and technology.
Resource Management & Budgeting:
Ensure that current programs are completed on schedule, within budget, and meet the customer’s requirements for performance and quality as related to New Product Development CAD design.
- Plan, budget, and schedule direct and indirect resources to ensure that objectives are met in an optimum manner with maximum financial efficiency and quality.
- Work in conjunction with Global CAD System Support to standardize software and processes for design requirements along with the Engineering PLM & PDM systems.
- Utilize offshore and outsourcing resources for greater efficiency and economy.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree required, Engineering specialty a plus
- Minimum 5+ years in the design or application of mechanical products
- Minimum 3+ years of broad engineering leadership experience in relevant fields including successful product development contributions and process improvements. Proven “hands-on” team leadership, with focus on team development, mentoring, and engagement
- Practical working knowledge of CAD software, PDM/PLM systems required; ERP systems, Power BI and manufacturing process knowledge preferred
