Job Description

70% - Graphic Design

  • Design clear engaging graphic communications for print and web. This will include event and workshop marketing materials, branded promotional items, website, posters, banners, flyers, and other marketing materials as needed
  • Work within existing brand framework and adhere to brand standards
  • Design swag and promotional materials for multiple units
  • Develop brand packages for units as needed
  • Understand and implement critiques and edits as necessary
  • Work in collaboration with other Graphic Design Interns

20% - Team Planning and Development

  • Participate in meetings and brainstorming sessions related to the development of future marketing and advertising campaigns
  • Work in collaboration with other members of the Digital Media Team

10% - Professional Development

  • Complete LinkedIn Learning courses
  • Take part in projects outside of standard marketing requests
  • Attend networking events to expand your professional community

Required Qualifications

  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud applications including Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign as demonstrated in application materials.
  • Demonstrated visual design skills set to an overall brand identity as presented in application materials.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and projects independently to meet established deadlines.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills as demonstrated by application materials.
  • Flexibility in adjusting deadlines for deliverables throughout the creative process.
  • Ability to work in office with remote option available on an as needed basis.
  • Understanding that certain requirements must be met to receive internship credits through The University of Kansas.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Microsoft Office 364.
  • Self-starter who can take artistic direction and contribute original ideas in a collaborative manner within the team.
  • Ability to focus and work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Creative and innovative strategical thinking with the ability to understand marketing strategies for short-term and long-term campaigns.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of digital, in-person and print based marketing.
  • Knowledge of management and planning strategies for design focused collaborative projects.

Position Requirements

During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).
