Job Description

As part of the sales team, the Specialist serves as a critical cornerstone to enhance the client experience. This role offers the opportunity to learn about the commercial banking industry and gain valuable experience working directly with customers. This role provides training and development opportunities for future portfolio managers, relationship managers, or credit analysts.

Will assist Business Banking Relationship Managers (BBRMs) with loan applications, CRM updates, preparing and completing relationship reviews, assisting with documentation of various products and services, assist with various sales related portfolio management responsibilities, coordinate prospecting, sales activities for the RMs, ensure strong level of customer contact, and drive new ways to consistently enhance the customer experience. Responsible and accountable for risk by openly exchanging ideas and opinions, elevating concerns, and personally following policies and procedures as defined. Accountable for always doing the right thing for customers and colleagues and ensures that actions and behaviors drive a positive customer experience.

POSITION SUMMARY

Responsible for assisting relationship managers (RM) with portfolio management, customer service, and sales support within division/region; and independently managing an assigned commercial account portfolio. Supports one or more Relationship Managers with prospecting, sales and customer onboarding and customer service.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Responsible for assisting RM with the management of the RM loan portfolios.
  • Responsible for managing an assigned micro and small business loan portfolio.
  • Manages maturing note and renewal process including updating and /or populating Insight (CRM) with borrower and loan information and data as indicated.
  • Responds to client loan and deposit requests including obtaining necessary approvals.
  • Manages past dues, client inquiries, gather financial data as needed, and other similar tasks as required.
  • Assists in the sales process including reviewing client relationships for cross-sell opportunities.
  • Responds to calls and inquiries from current business loan clients.
  • Follows up on financial statement exceptions, and reviews for opportunities/concern.
  • Serves as liaison between the RM, client, and loan operations department to ensure pre- and post-funding loan requirements are met.
  • Assists with the opening of new business depository accounts and coordinates with Treasury Services to ensure proper implementation of related products and services.
  • Prepares and submits loan packets for credit approval as directed.
  • Participates in joint calls with RMs to learn about a business and upcoming opportunities or needs.
  • As requested, reviews public information for new opportunities, performing basic market research, and assisting with the pre-call planning process for both prospects and existing clients.
  • Responsible for assisting or attending loan closings.
  • Responsible for the development of customer presentations, pitch books for new lending opportunities, cross selling, and other business to existing clients.
  • Assists with calling efforts, blitzes and campaigns by developing calling strategies, assisting with potential targets and looking for new ways to add meaningful touches to clients and prospects.
  • Performs routine tasks as requested by client including transfers, loan payments, wires, and research.
  • At the RM's direction, contacts and inquires with clients for delinquent payments.
  • Clears credit and documentation exceptions.
  • Responds to inbound inquiries from current business loan clients.
  • Provides customer support as needed (i.e., delivers documents, etc.).
  • Provides subject matter expertise on customer onboarding and ongoing customer due diligence/enhanced due diligence.
  • Provides back up support in the department as needed.
  • Must function in the team environment, where the colleague may be assigned to work with teams outside of their direct reporting line.
  • Prioritizes work to meet customer expectations.
  • Participates in special projects as needed.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is an essential requirement of the position.
  • Completes all compliance training related to the position.
  • Understands all applicable laws and regulations that apply to the position and complies with the requirements.

NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Performs all other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE/SKILLS

  • One (1) to three (3) years of retail or commercial related experience required.

  • Basic knowledge of commercial lending concepts required.

  • Formalized basic credit training or equivalent credit risk experience preferred.

  • Strong business acumen to include detailed analysis, review of financial statements and understanding of basic accounting principles.

  • Strong time management skills.

  • Excellent organizational skills.

  • Experience/Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work with different departments and business entities.

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and take initiative.

  • Customer service oriented.

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

  • Provides a positive client experience.

  • Ability to assess client needs.

  • Uses effective problem solving and analytical skills with ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks.

  • Demonstrates strong verbal and written communication skills, with particular emphasis on experience in face-to-face negotiations and group presentation skills.

  • Must be proficient in all Microsoft Office software, familiarity with prospecting and CRM sales tools preferred.

EDUCATION

Bachelor's Degree in business, economics, or finance preferred.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to travel to regularly to client locations, off-site locations for meetings, projects, seminars, etc., as well as ability to travel overnight on rare occasions.
