Job Description

As a key team member, you'll contribute to impactful infrastructure projects while growing your skills. Your role will include:

  • Design & Development: Create design criteria, alignments, superelevation, and detailed roadway calculations.
  • Plan Production: Prepare construction plans and proposal packages using MDOT's Plan Development Guide and Design Wiki.
  • 3D Modeling: Apply advanced 3D modeling skills to deliver accurate, high-quality designs.
  • Traffic Control: Design effective traffic control plans to support safe and efficient projects.
  • Documentation: Prepare special provisions, cost estimates, and perform fieldwork to assess existing conditions.
  • Quality Assurance: Uphold high standards through our corporate QA plan.
  • Proposals: Collaborate with sales to develop strong responses to RFPs.
  • Industry Engagement: Support business development by attending key industry events.
  • Mentorship: Guide and supervise junior engineers, providing technical support and training.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Civil, Transportation, or Structural Engineering or related discipline. Professional engineering (PE) license. 7 years of related experience. Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands. Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MicroStation & OpenRoads: Production-level proficiency with Bentley MicroStation and MDOT OpenRoads Designer (ORD) Connect Edition.
  • Work Zone Safety: Strong understanding of Transportation Management Plans (TMPs) per MDOT's Workzone Safety and Mobility Manual.
  • Hydraulics & Scour Analysis: Experience in hydraulic analysis and modeling for bridges and culverts, including scour evaluation.
  • Drainage Design: Skilled in drainage studies, storm sewer design, stormwater management, and Best Management Practices (BMPs).
