Job Description
Signal Energy’s is seeking a skilled Electrical CAD Designer to join the Signal Energy team. The ideal candidate will primarily focus on developing detailed electrical designs for photovoltaic (PV) and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects. While the primary responsibility will be electrical design, the role will also require coordination with civil and structural disciplines to support complete project deliverables. The designer will work closely with engineering and project teams to ensure system performance, constructability, and compliance with industry standards.
Reports to: Principal Electrical Engineer
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The Electrical CAD Designer will be responsible for detailed design work on all aspects of photovoltaic (PV) electrical power systems, including:
- String sizing and array layouts
- Tracker power and communication layouts
- One-line diagrams and wiring diagrams
- Balance of System (BOS) and Balance of Plant (BOP) equipment details
- Conduit and cable sizing and routing
- Grounding system design
- Preparation of equipment specifications
- Support in developing and maintaining project schedules
- Preparing computer-based models
- Providing field assistance, troubleshooting support, and generating observation reports
- Verifying the work of other Designers, Drafters, and Field Service Personnel for quality and accuracy, as required
- Ensuring all designs meet applicable codes, standards, and construction best practices
- Collaborating closely with engineering, procurement, and construction teams to align designs with project requirements
- Coordinating with civil and structural teams to integrate electrical designs into site layouts
- Upholding high ethical and professional standards in all aspects of work
- Managing CAD files, maintaining drawing standards, and ensuring organized project documentation
- Performing other job-related responsibilities as assigned
Required Skills and Experience:
- 5+ years of experience in electrical design, with a focus on renewable energy projects (solar PV and battery energy storage preferred)
- Proficiency in AutoCAD is required; candidates must have at least 5 years of hands-on experience working with AutoCAD for electrical design and drafting
- Strong understanding of electrical systems, including wiring diagrams, one-line diagrams, and system layout designs
- Ability to interpret and apply relevant industry standards, codes, and regulations (e.g., NEC, IEEE)
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including civil, structural, and engineering departments
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to support project documentation and client interactions
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
