Position Summary

The Medical Staff Services Manager oversees all administrative functions related to the credentialing, privileging, and support of the medical staff and allied health professionals. This role ensures compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements (e.g., Joint Commission, DNV, CMS, NCQA ,state licensure) and serves as a liaison between hospital administration and the medical staff. The manager plays a key role in fostering a collaborative, efficient, and organized medical staff environment in alignment with the hospital's mission and values.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and coordinate all functions of medical staff services, including credentialing, reappointment, privileging, peer review, continuing medical education (CME) programs, and payer enrollment.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and accrediting body regulations related to medical staff governance and operations.
  • Serve as a primary liaison between hospital administration and the Medical Executive Committee, department chairs, and other physician leaders.
  • Coordinate and attend Medical Staff meetings, and maintain accurate minutes, agendas, and official records.
  • Oversee the development, implementation, and compliance of medical staff bylaws, policies, and procedures.
  • Manage the preparation for and participation in surveys by Joint Commission, DNV, and other accrediting/licensing agencies.
  • Supervise credentialing and medical staff services staff; provide leadership, training, and performance evaluations.
  • Ensure accuracy and confidentiality of medical staff files and records.
  • Collaborate with quality and risk management teams in provider performance evaluations and peer review processes.
  • Promote physician engagement and foster strong working relationships between hospital leadership and the medical staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, business, or related field required
  • Certified Professional in Medical Services Management (CPMSM) or Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist (CPCS) preferred or obtain once eligible.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in medical staff services or credentialing, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
  • Experience in a community hospital setting strongly preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of credentialing, privileging, and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities.
  • Proficient in medical staff management software (e.g., MD-Staff) and MS Office Suite.
