Director of Pharmacy
Location: Berkeley, CA
Schedule:
- Monday – Friday: 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
- Saturday: 8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Compensation: $187,200 – $208,000 annually, depending on experience
Position Summary
The Director of Pharmacy Services oversees all pharmacy-related operations within a clinical healthcare setting. This leadership role is responsible for strategic planning, regulatory compliance, budget management, and coordination with medical teams to ensure the delivery of high-quality, cost-effective pharmacy services. The Director plays a critical role in optimizing pharmacy performance, enhancing patient care, and ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Direct the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of all pharmacy services.
- Lead operational and clinical efforts in pharmacy performance, quality control, and cost management.
- Develop and maintain pharmacy policies and procedures in compliance with federal and state laws.
- Manage staff including hiring, performance evaluations, training, and professional development.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers and administrators to promote integrated care practices.
- Ensure proper procurement, storage, inventory, and dispensing of pharmaceuticals and supplies.
- Serve as a pharmacy consultant to clinical staff on medication therapy, formulary updates, and drug utilization.
- Supervise pharmacy technicians and ensure compliance with all dispensing regulations.
- Maintain patient medication profiles and provide counseling per legal and organizational standards.
- Participate in internal leadership teams, safety programs, emergency preparedness, and cross-departmental planning.
- Oversee pharmacy records, audits, and compliance reports related to controlled substances and operational standards.
- Monitor third-party payer policies, including Medi-Cal formulary and reimbursement regulations.
- Establish and manage pharmacy budgets, grants, and vendor contracts.
- Represent the organization in external meetings and ensure positive stakeholder engagement.
- Promote safety, security, infection control, and staff adherence to organizational ethics and policies.
Requirements
- Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) from an accredited institution.
- Current licensure as a Pharmacist in the State of California.
- Minimum of five (5) years of clinical pharmacy experience.
- Must have experience with 340B
- At least one (1) year in a supervisory or managerial pharmacy role is preferred.
- Proficient knowledge of Medi-Cal formulary and Medicaid operational systems.
- Experience with outpatient or hospital pharmacy operations and electronic pharmacy systems.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage a multidisciplinary team and collaborate effectively across departments.
- Valid California driver’s license and eligibility to meet standard insurance requirements.
