Urban Design and Climate Resiliency Strategist

Responsibilities:

• Conduct climate research related to urban environments, with a focus on UHI effect and sea level rise.
• Research case studies, best practices and benchmarking for creating resilient places.
• Research systems and advance designs for climate-resilient solutions, including strategies to mitigate climatic challenges such as sea level rise, storm events, and the urban heat island effect.
• Present and communicate research findings to clients, local constituents, stakeholders and firm leadership
• Promote and prioritize equity and inclusion in all climate resilience planning objectives and implementation decisions.
• Engage with stakeholders to develop resilient design solutions and programs that advance initiatives.
• Participate in climate risk modeling, planning updates, community design engagements, and implementation prioritization.
• Collaborate with architects, engineers, and urban planners to integrate climate adaption strategies into city planning projects
• Engage the community and other constituencies to solicit input and feedback, work in partnership with local governments and stakeholders on climate change and environmental matters.
• Prototype new ideas on addressing the challenges of climate change
• Assist in creating design guidelines and research based recommendations for urban projects.
• Lead innovative community outreach around climate preparedness.

 

Qualifications and Requirements:

• Master’s degree in urban design, design studies, or a closely related field, and 4 years experience in any job title with duties involving urban design including for UHI effect and climate resiliency
• Expertise required in: climate change and sea level rise analysis; articulating research findings through comprehensive reports and presentations
• Demonstrated ability to: plan, coordinate, and execute multiple research projects simultaneously; and apply climate and sustainability current and best practice global regulatory and policy guidance
• In-depth knowledge of: climate change and technology impact on urban infrastructure; UAE geography and climate, and environmental standards
• 5% domestic travel; 5% international travel
