Job Description
Key Activities/Responsibilities:
Safety
- Remain up to date with and direct the implementation of Federal, State, and local government policies and regulations in matters of environmental, health, and safety and assure compliance in these regulations.
- Lead the development and execution of various safety, environmental, health programs, policies and training in coordination with Site Managers (such as lockout/tag out, forklift, HAZ/COM, ergonomics, emergency response, PPE)
- Lead continuous improvement cost saving initiatives within safety/facilities.
- Monitor, train, evaluate, and guide safety/facilities personnel and coordinate with other internal teams.
- Conduct audits (Housekeeping, Environmental, PPE) on a quarterly basis for the Billings, MT location.
- Develop and monitor corrective action plans from audit findings targeting key improvements agreed to by management team and maintain related record keeping.
- Conduct job safety analysis to identify potential workplace hazards and determine the appropriate PPE required for the job, editing and updating as necessary.
- Conduct post-accident/incident investigations, perform root cause analysis including developing and communicating prevention steps to avoid future occurrences.
- Provide EHS training to all MRL employees and management team.
- Provide Safety Orientation to all new hires.
- Manage uniform, First Aid, and PPE programs.
- Manage fire extinguisher compliance for all locations.
- Manage first aid supplies for all MRL facilities.
- Coordinate annual onsite safety glasses visit.
- Calculate and communicate safety key point indicators/ benchmarks /incident rates: TRIR, LTIR, DART.
- Update and maintain material safety sheets for all chemicals used at location.
- Develops and maintains required OSHA, EPA, NFPA, Storm Water, and other environmental records in accordance with government regulations.
- Foster an environment of open communication and collaborative problem solving, proactively promoting our ‘Safety Focus’ culture.
- Performs other duties, assignments, and special projects as assigned.
Facilities
- Willing and able to respond “on call” 24 hours a day/7 day a week to assist in the supervision and handling of trouble-calls during off-hours.
- Respond to facility related emergencies or issues in a timely manner.
- Develop and implement preventative maintenance programs to ensure the longevity and functionality of facilities and equipment.
- Manage facility vendors/contractors (electrical, HVAC, plumping, concrete, landscape, custodial services, etc.)
- Manage bids with contractors for projects.
- Coordinate and supervise contractors and vendors including but not limited to repairs, renovations, construction/remodeling, security, plumbing, equipment maintenance, cleaning, and waste disposal.
- Ensure that MRL facilities are well maintained and strive for “best in class”
- Security management
- Minor facility maintenance and repairs.
Requirements
- Bachelor degree in a related field, or equivalent recent and relevant experience, required
- Completed or enrolled in first year of the OSHA 10-hr safety certification course, preferred
- Minimum 7-10 years of experience managing EHS functions in a manufacturing plant or industrial facility, required
- Completed or enrolled in first year of the OSHA 10-hr safety certification course, preferred
- Minimum 7-10 years of experience managing EHS functions in a manufacturing plant or industrial facility, required
- This position requires demonstrated knowledge of project management planning and execution along with manufacturing facility operations, maintenance and management methods necessary to control and improve facility performance
- Good organizational and investigation skills
- Demonstrated ability to act with a sense of urgency to address situations requiring immediate attention
- Strong knowledge of PC and MS Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Basic knowledge of current OSHA, EPA, TCEQ, and NFPA regulations
- Ability and willingness to assume the role of Safety leader and mentor
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills with ability to discuss all types of safety and environmental issues with employees
- Functions well in an active operational culture with frequently changing priorities and demonstrated ability to support Company operations
