Position Title: Psychologist
I. Position Summary:
The Psychologist provides consultation and ongoing counseling and treatment for patients in the long-term care, post-acute, and/or outpatient venues, including Wolk center for Memory Health within Hebrew SeniorLife.
II. Core Competencies:
- Ability to diagnose and treat psychological conditions in adult and geriatric patients using current evidence-based techniques.

- Ability to provide education on psychological concepts to patients, staff, and families at levels appropriate to these groups respectively.

III. Position Responsibilities:
- Provides consultation as requested by primary care teams in the long-term care, post-acute, and outpatient settings.
- Observes, records, and evaluates the behavior of patients and residents during examinations and other situations.
- Works collaboratively and integrates care with staff psychiatrists and primary care providers in Department of Medicine and all members of the clinical care team.
- As a member of the treatment team, collaborates with other professional staff in diagnosing problems, formulating treatment plans and evaluating progress.
- Effectively communicates results in written and oral form, with treatment recommendations as appropriate.
- Confers with other professional staff members regarding significant reactions or events which affect the patient and the treatment process.
- Selects, administers, scores and interprets as appropriate a variety of diagnostic instruments, such as psychological, achievement, neuropsychological, intelligence, interest, personality, and projective tests.
- Provides assistance in training facility staff and students in behavioral interventions, interpersonal effectiveness, and problem-solving.
- Provides support to treatment teams with challenging clinical cases.
- Provides patient crisis intervention assistance.
- Provides on-going group therapy as appropriate.
- Attends work-related training seminars and workshops.
- Serves as a resource to family and caregivers managing the illness of their loved ones on related matters. Captures pertinent data reflecting support needed for families/caregivers of older adults living with dementia through a variety of input channels, across HSL and across industry
- Routinely interfaces with internal and external key stakeholders with expertise in memory care to understand needs of caregivers supporting those living with cognitive impairment
- Maintains records and prepares reports and correspondence related to the work.
- Documents patient visits within a timely manner (typically within same day) using the appropriate medical record system.
- Responds in an appropriate and timely manner to inquiries received via the electronic health record patient portal.
- Supports Department of Medicine service goals by meeting productivity targets.
- Performs related work as assigned.
IV QUALIFICATIONS
LICENSURE
Require completion of doctoral degree in psychology from an accredited professional school.
Requires current Massachusetts state license as Licensed Psychologist.
EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE
- One year of professional experience providing psychological treatment in long-term care, supportive housing or other geriatric facility.
- Professional experience and comfort working in a medical environment, accessing medical records.
- Appreciation for the interplay between psychotherapeutic and pharmacotherapeutic modalities.
- Experience leading group therapy sessions.
