Job Description
Essential Responsibilities
- Instructs swimming lessons in accordance with YMCA guidelines, having prepared lesson plans accordingly. Keep constant visual contact with all program participants, scan constantly and use equipment safely as it was intended for use.
- Builds effective, authentic relationships with students and parents; helps them connect with each other and the YMCA. Encourages parent involvement and identifies potential volunteers.
- Conveys information on aquatics programs and schedules and as appropriate refers students and parents to other programs.
- Maintains records as required (i.e. attendance, progress reports, etc.).
- Evaluate each student and record their progress each class.
Minimum Requirements:
- Minimum age 16 years of age
- Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid certification, within the first 6 months of employment must receive Y Swim Lesson Instructor certification.
- Must be able to swim 25 yards of 4 of the following strokes: front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke, butterfly, side stroke, or elementary back stroke.
- Must be able to demonstrate swim instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
- Must be friendly. Must be able to think in the abstract, solve problems, make decisions, instruct, evaluate and remember.
