Job Summary:
The Occupational Health Nurse (OHN) in a manufacturing setting is responsible for delivering occupational health services to support employee safety, health, and productivity. The OHN provides clinical care for workplace injuries and illnesses, conducts health assessments, and partners with safety teams to manage occupational risks specific to industrial operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct pre-employment, periodic, and fitness-for-duty medical assessments for manufacturing employees.
- Administer first aid and manage medical emergencies and workplace injuries in accordance with company protocols.
- Support the management of workers' compensation claims and facilitate timely return-to-work programs.
- Perform hearing tests, respiratory fit testing, vision screening, and other occupational health surveillance activities.
- Monitor and track incidents of occupational illness and exposure to industrial hazards (chemicals, noise, repetitive motion).
- Maintain OSHA-required medical records and reports, and ensure regulatory compliance with local and federal occupational health standards.
- Deliver health education and wellness programs focused on topics like ergonomics, heat stress, PPE use, and substance abuse prevention.
- Collaborate with safety teams to identify potential workplace hazards and recommend improvements.
- Participate in safety audits, risk assessments, and investigations of workplace accidents.
- Maintain clinical supplies, emergency kits, and health center operations on the manufacturing floor.
Qualifications:
- Registered Nurse (RN) with an active license.
- Certification in Occupational Health Nursing (COHN) or willingness to obtain.
- Minimum 2-5 years of experience in occupational health, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and industrial health standards.
- Current First Aid, CPR, and AED certification.
- Familiarity with case management, medical surveillance protocols, and workplace wellness programs.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with hearing conservation programs, respiratory protection, and ergonomic assessments.
- Knowledge of chemical exposure protocols and material safety data sheets (MSDS).
- Proficiency with electronic medical records and reporting software.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Working Conditions:
- Based in a manufacturing facility; frequent interaction with production staff and presence on the factory floor.
- May require occasional travel to other plant locations.
- Flexibility to work shifts or extended hours during health incidents or emergencies.
