Job Description:

Postdoctoral Research Fellow – Tissue Engineering & Regenerative Medicine
Ma Lab – Scottish Rite for Children / UT Southwestern Medical Center

About Us

The Ma Lab at Scottish Rite for Children and UT Southwestern Medical Center is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join our team. Our lab focuses on developing advanced biomaterials and tissue engineering strategies to repair damaged bone and cartilage using clinically relevant animal models.

Our research is generously supported by National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research, National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases, and Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America.

We pursue innovative, translational research by integrating state-of-the-art technologies—including 3D imaging and gene/protein/metabolite omics—to determine regenerative and pathological microenvironments of bone and cartilage. More importantly, to develop bioinspired tissue engineering strategies to enhance damaged tissue regeneration by novel biomaterial/cell complex.

The Ma Lab fosters a collaborative and interdisciplinary environment, working closely with both clinical surgeons and basic scientists. The selected candidate will receive comprehensive training in advanced lab techniques and translational research, developing the skills and clinical insight necessary for a successful independent scientific career.

Position Summary

We are currently seeking a postdoctoral fellow with a strong background in bone biology, molecular biology, cell biology, tissue engineering, and biomaterials. The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Performing animal surgeries and handling in vivo models
  • Conducting RNA/protein/primary cell isolations and in vitro cell culture
  • Carrying out molecular biology assays (e.g., PCR, Western blot, ELISA)
  • Analyzing omics datasets
  • Preparing manuscripts and academic presentations.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in cell biology, developmental biology, molecular biology, bioengineering, or a related field
  • Demonstrated scientific productivity through peer-reviewed publications
  • Strong interest and commitment to translational biomedical research
  • Knowledge of bone and/or craniofacial development
  • Hands-on experience with biomaterial applications (e.g., scaffolds, hydrogels, micro/nanoparticles)
  • Proficiency in imaging techniques (e.g., confocal microscopy) and molecular biology tools
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team

Recent Ph.D. graduates are highly encouraged to apply.

How to Apply

Interested candidates should email the following materials to Dr. Chi Ma (Chi.Ma@utsouthwestern.edu):
