Essential Functions:
- Applies knowledge of the scientific principles underlying cardiopulmonary physiology and pathophysiology, as well as biomedical engineering and technology.
- Offers effective preventative care to, as well as assess, educate, and treat patients with cardiopulmonary deficiencies.
- Practices Respiratory Care under medical direction across the health care continuum. Develops and implements effective care plans, patient-driven protocols, disease-based clinical pathways, and disease management programs according to evidence-based clinical practice guidelines.
- Provides Respiratory Care using a Family Centered Approach.
- Assesses individualized patient cardiopulmonary needs and communicates them to the care team.
- Embraces the interdisciplinary care model and stays aware of changes, participating in data collection or auditing, understanding Quality Improvement, and representing staff at relevant staff meetings and then reporting information and updates back to staff.
Education Requirement:
Associate’s Degree in Respiratory Therapy, required.
Licensure Requirement:
- Registered Respiratory Therapist by the National Board for Respiratory Care, required.
- Current Ohio license to practice respiratory care, required.
Certifications:
- Current CPR card, required.
- Current PALS or NRP certification may be required depending on unit of hire.
- NPS credential, preferred.
Skills:
- Critical thinking and patient or environment assessment skills.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills required in interactions with patients and parents, and hospital staff.
