Job Description

Do you believe good meals start with quality ingredients and a little extra care? Do you enjoy working with fresh food—and being around kids who appreciate a warm smile with their lunch? If so, we’d love to welcome you to our kitchen!

At Wayzata Public Schools, our dedicated Nutrition team is on a mission: to plan, prepare, and serve wholesome, scratch-made meals that fuel student success—nourishing their minds, bodies, and sense of belonging. We don’t cut corners—we clean, chop, season, and cook meals the way they’re meant to be made: from scratch and with care.

We’re looking for a  Nutrition Assistant - Float who takes pride in the process and finds joy in a fast-paced, purpose-driven environment. Whether you’re prepping fresh produce or connecting with students in the lunch line, your work helps create a school day filled with energy, comfort, and community.

Your Role Will Include:

  • Willing to go to all school locations and be flexible in scheduled work hours.
  • Preparing, portioning, and serving food items according to standardized recipes and daily schedules.
  • Assisting with setup, cleanup, and sanitation of food service areas, ensuring safe and efficient operations.
  • Use the point-of-sale (POS) system to check out students efficiently and accurately.
  • Collaborating with team members and supervisors to maintain a positive, productive work environment and deliver high-quality service.
  • Supporting food service for special school or community events as needed.
  • Attending required training and following district and department policies and procedures.
  • Communicating effectively with supervisors and reporting any operational or safety concerns promptly.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Previous experience in an institutional kitchen setting.
  • Experience with quantity food production.
  • Basic math and computational skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and follow instructions.
  • Competency with institutional food service equipment.
  • All new food service employees must pass a district-arranged pre-placement physical examination.
  • Successful completion of background check.

Salary and Benefits:

  • Starting at $23.03/hour.
  • This position is not health or dental benefit eligible.

Location & Shift Times:

  • All School locations, 5.0 hours/day (7:15am - 2:30pm).

Whether you’re experienced or just starting out, we’ll provide the training, support, and community you need to grow. You’ll make a difference every single day—one scratch-made meal at a time.

Be part of something bigger. Be part of the Wayzata Nutrition team.
