Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY: The Manager, Construction Accounting will be expected to oversee and lead the execution of daily financial reporting and construction accounting activities of the team, continuously initiate the opportunity for developing relationships with Construction Accountants and division contacts (including Contract Administrators) to achieve business goals, have thorough knowledge of bank reconciliations, preparation and analysis of monthly statements and general ledgers, performing accounting functions including analysis of transactions to determine appropriate accounting outcomes, preparing and/or reviewing journal entries, completing account reconciliations, compiling and reviewing monthly construction draws, initiating payments and fees, routine problem solving, and provide timely and accurate reporting, which are a measurable indicator of success in the role.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Master and provide subject matter expertise on Sage Intacct and Ramp.
  • Assist in oversight of monthly construction draw process to review and resolve issues.
  • Complete and distribute project reports to division contacts for construction projects.
  • Maintain and monitor loan covenant requirements for compliance.
  • Review and approve bank reconciliations, monthly financial report packages, and other required reports.
  • Prepare requisitions and work with closing team for investment and land acquisitions.
  • Oversee monthly filing and dissemination of accounting documents.
  • Maintain and update accounting department and contract administrator training materials.
  • Review and analyze investment documentation, including but not limited to, partnership agreements, construction contracts, and loan documents for compliance with accounting and administrative requirements.
  • Direct accounting for ownership entities including but not limited to capital activity, acquisition, disposition, and distribution.
  • Monitor timeliness and accuracy of the general ledger function through the issuance of financial statements and information.
  • Ensure deadlines for accurate reporting are met per client reporting requirements.
  • Provide professional, responsive and proactive communication to clients and associates.
  • Understand investor and lender accounting expectations (including reporting requirements, bank accounts, critical timing and related items).
  • Serve as liaison to external auditors and investors when required.
  • Full ownership of accounting for development projects, understanding all key updates each month and ability to rapidly respond to questions from divisions, construction, accounting, external audit and investors, and leadership.
  • Respond to problems and ensure issues are resolved accurately and timely.
  • Cash management and company liaison with client regarding cash status.
  • Coordinate recruiting and training activities for the team.
  • Identify and implement process improvements.
  • Ensure adherence to policies, procedures, and maintain effective internal controls.
  • Any additional duties as assigned or directed.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO SUCCEED:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance (Accounting preferred)
  • Five or more years of progressive experience in accounting
  • CPA license or CPA candidate with path to earn license in future (strongly preferred)
  • Audit experience, preferably with Big 4 Accounting firm (strongfly preferred)
  • Prior experience with management and development of people and/or processes
  • High degree of responsibility and initiative
  • Strong management and leadership skills
  • Ability to perform intermediate mathematical functions
  • Strong knowledge of General Accepted Accounting Principles
  • High level of proficiency with in Excel, Word, Outlook, and other systems
  • Strong analytical and reasoning skills
  • Strong transformation experience, including using platforms such as Alteryx and Power BI, and/or experience with other transformation and automation platforms including RPA and AI.
  • Proven experience with program management, leading large groups with disparate priorities and goals on very tight timelines. Ability to orchestrate large efforts across multiple divisions with different processes, staffing, and deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact and relate effectively, productively, and positively with other associates and clients
  • Ability to multitask and switch focus frequently
  • High tolerance for ambiguity and adaption to change
  • Ability to operate a 10-key calculator
  • Typing and data entry skills
  • Ability to have flexibility with working schedule based on business and deadline needs
  • Ability to work a schedule during normal work hours and that may be other than Monday-Friday, 8-5. Work in excess of 40 hours per week is likely.
  • Consistent, regular and in person attendance during regular working hours at the workplace is required.
