Job Description
Modal is building the serverless compute platform to support the next generation of AI companies. Modal was started with the goal to make it easier to iterate and ship applications for data, AI, and machine learning. In order to deliver the developer experience we wanted, we went deep and built our own infrastructure—including our own custom file system, container runtime, scheduler, container image builder, and much more.
In just a year we've hit 8-figure revenue, tripled our headcount, scaled our infrastructure to flexibly support thousands of GPUs, and become a critical part of the tech stack of some of the most innovative AI companies. We’ve also raised over $32M in funding from top-tier VCs.

The Role
As our first in house recruiter, you’ll pay a critical role in shaping our team and talent strategy — partnering closely with leadership to hire top-tier talent and build out the recruiting function from the ground up. This is a high impact role where you’ll directly influence the trajectory of the company by bringing in the people who will build it.
In this role, you will:
Own full-cycle recruiting for key hires across functions - with a large emphasis on technical recruiting
Build a strong pipeline of talent and manage outreach, engagement, and relationship-building
Partner with founders and hiring managers to define roles, identify the right talent pool, craft scorecards, and build efficient hiring processes
Establish foundational recruiting practices, including sourcing strategies, interview processes, and candidate experience standards
Lay the groundwork for long-term scaling of talent function as the company grows
Requirements:
5+ years of experience in full-cycle recruiting, with a strong track record of hiring technical and non-technical roles in high growth environments
A plus: Extensive experience hiring for technical roles
Has experience working at or recruiting for early-stage startups - knows what it takes to get great candidates into the pipelines
Is scrappy and resourceful, with a builder mindset and comfort operating in ambiguity
Communicates clearly and operates with a high sense of ownership and urgency
Brings a thoughtful and inclusive approach to sourcing and candidate experience
Is excited to roll up their sleeves and help build not just the team, but the recruiting function itself
Is proactive in iterating - constantly working to make things even 1% better than the day before
