Job Summary:
The Wayne Health Mobile Units represent the future of healthcare, providing ‘care your way, where you live and work,’ with the long-term goal of improving population health outcomes. The Wayne Health Mobile Units deliver an ever-expanding menu of health care and social services directly to neighborhoods or places of employment.The Pharmacy Technician is an extension of the Pharmacist, interacting with patients at the onsite clinic, building strong partnerships between the patients and the staff, and assisting the pharmacist in recording receipt and dispensing of medication.
Job Description:
Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage medication inventory to prepare for distribution on Mobile Health Unit vans
- Verify medication receipt and distribution in an accurate and timely manner according to defined protocols
- Immediately report prescription errors or omissions to Pharmacy Manager and collaborating filling pharmacy
- Communicate with patients via telephone or other determined means to inform receipt of medication and arrange pick-up site or delivery according to defined protocols
- Dispense medication(s) to patient(s) on Wayne Mobile Health Unit vans on-site according to defined protocols (such as obtaining patient signatures and verification of accurate medication) and under the supervision of a Pharmacist.
- Perform administrative duties and all other delegated duties assigned by Wayne Mobile Health Unit pharmacist(s)
- Assist the pharmacist(s) with the performance of pharmacy duties in accordance to Wayne Mobile Health unit policies and procedures
- Maintain high level of confidentiality and follow HIPAA standards to safeguard patient information
- Greets patients and guests at the Mobile Health Unit upon arrival, confirm or collect patient demographics, insurance information, physician referrals and other check-in procedures as directed
- Schedule patient appointments according to defined protocols
- Provide Social Determinants of Health (SDoH) questionnaire
- Efficiently type, communicate, and navigate multiple healthcare platforms and reference material at the same time to assist the patient in a timely manner
- Work collaboratively and effectively within a team, manually distribute paper flyers via walking to communicate and educate the public about the Mobile Health Unit services
Requirements – Skills, Abilities, and Knowledge:
- Ability to travel to Mobile Health Unit sites and be flexible with changes in locations/sites due to external factors (i.e., weather, cancellations, add-ons, etc.)
- Ability to multitask various roles as needed throughout the Mobile Health Unit
- Ability to work independently or collaboratively with the passion for the mission, vision, and values of Wayne Health and Wayne State University
- Demonstrate excellent customer service performance on all contacts, with attitude and actions that are consistent with Wayne Health and Wayne State University policies
- Maintain up to date Pharmacy Technician Certification Board requirements
- Computer skills (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Internet)
- Leadership skills (i.e., professionalism, discretion, integrity, honesty and dedication)
Qualifications
- Pharmacy Technician Board Certified
- Knowledge of Michigan Pharmacy Law
- Vaccination Certification preferable
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Valid driver’s license
Safety Requirements:
- Compliance with Department Health and Safety policies and procedures
Working Conditions/Schedules:
- 40-hour work week, hours and days to be determined by the business needs of the department. Additional hours may be required.
- Must be flexible to work in both indoor and outdoor settings (ex. Mobile units and community sites)
