FLSmidth, a global leader in products and solutions for cement and mining industry clients, is looking for team-oriented, talented individual to assist our proposal management team for our North American Region Service Execution team. Every great service project begins with properly determining and detailing the service requirements.
The Proposal Engineer's main function is to interpret the customer's expectations into a series of tasks and resources associated with the cost of completing these tasks and offer a comprehensive solution to the customer.
The role interacts with multiple levels of external and internal stakeholders as well as resources.
The success criteria of a PROPOSAL ENGINEER performance is to create a cost effective and executable service package; to achieve this result the PROPOSAL ENGINEER needs to use the proper resources and consider the stakeholders requirements while maintaining a good conscious of the competitive marketplace.
Details oriented, agile, customer services focus, and a desire to learn and continually improve are all key factors to a successful PROPOSAL ENGINEER. The PROPOSAL ENGINEER will develop new technical skills through training and developmental opportunities provided by the business so that revenue and profitability targets are achieved in accordance with company objectives.
Responsibilities:
- Visit customers and job sites to promote services, perform work site inspections, collect field measurements, attend customer meetings and evaluate bid request information to develop scopes of work (including sub-contractors), cost and resource estimates, project schedules and prepare service offers and scope clarifications
- Analyze customers' needs and confirm the job scope with customer and regional sales managers
- Receive and process customer requests
- Create job scopes where required, estimate job schedule and resources cost and produce proposal.
- Facilitate commercial negotiations including terms
- Follow up on service opportunities with customers and/or collaborate with regional sales managers
- Drive business growth by creating new opportunities by interacting with customers
- Perform project forensic analysis to facilitate improvement of estimates
- Receive and process customers' purchase orders, ensuring they comply with proposal terms
- Working with Legal, Safety and Quality departments to meet industry and customers' expectations.
- Hand over clear and complete project data to execution team and assist with identifying scope variances when necessary
- Accurately log proposal data into company systems
- Comply with company's policies.
Educational qualifications: Bachelor of Science or equivalent experience; high school diploma required
Relevant experience:
- Organizational awareness and understanding of the impact of successful projects on the business
- 5+ years sales/estimating, technical support or performance of hands-on maintenance services to customers using industrial processing equipment in cement or minerals industries
- Planning methodology and systems experience
- Knowledge of typical site operations for cement and/or minerals (Preferred)
- Knowledge of rotary and/or pyro-processing equipment (Preferred)
Geographical scope: Regional - North America (Panama to Canada and Caribbean)
Physical Demands:
- Job requires regular sitting, occasional standing and walking up 1 - 2 flights of stairs: walking; using hands to touch, handle, or feel; reaching with hands and arms; talking and hearing. Occasional lifting and/or moving up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment:
- Office(s): The noise level in the office work area is within acceptable acoustic levels. Required travel is 10% to various FLS offices to attend various meetings consistent with role; attendance of seminars or workshops or other supportive activities that may be required from time to time (some international travel within the region may be required)
- Field Visits to Project Sites: Up to 20% travel to customer sites whose activities are based in heavy mining or industrial production operations with a myriad of large industrial process machines or production equipment; field site visits often have extreme working conditions (indoor or outdoor, high altitude, high heat, extreme cold, dust, grease and with various chemicals and gases present), requiring the appropriate PPE. The noise level in the work environment requires the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). PPE requirements may include: use of gloves, safety helmet, safety glasses or goggles, respiratory protection, hearing protection, etc
