Job Description:

Help the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife fulfill its mission: To protect and enhance Oregon's fish and wildlife and their habitats for use and enjoyment by present and future generations.

We are hiring two full-time, seasonal positions. One position will be in John Day, Oregon and

one position will be in Lakeview, Oregon.

DURATION

Both positions will be from September 1, 2025 - February 28, 2026 (These are estimated dates. Length of season(s) may be shortened or extended depending on project needs, funding, or factors beyond the project's control).

What you will do:

As a Wildlife Research Technician, you will conduct data collection on mule deer and carnivores in the East Region of Oregon. General project activities include:

  • Navigate with 4x4 trucks and ATVs to field locations

  • Assist with carnivore captures including cougars, coyotes, bobcats, and black bears

  • Deploy trail cameras

  • Collect biological data from mule deer

  • Monitor signals from telemetry collars on mule deer and conduct mortality investigations

  • Data management and entry

Note: This position requires an All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) Safety Education Card for on-the-job use of ATVs (Class 1 ATVs) obtained through the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department.

What we are looking for:

Minimum qualifications are not established for these positions; however we are seeking applicants with the following related skills and experience:

  • Experience conducting field work in remote settings

  • Experience using GIS software

  • Data management and entry experience

  • Experience handling and or capturing wildlife

  • Experience interacting with landowners

  • Anyone who has or are in pursuit of a Fisheries or Wildlife Science degree or related degree in biological/ecological sciences.
