This is a Monday through Friday opportunity to work with a dynamic team of clinical professionals at a well-respected healthcare organization at our Cancer Center.

The Oncology Social Worker (OSW) provides assessment, counseling, referral and psychosocial support to patients and their families who need assistance in handling emotional or financial distress or coping needs associated with cancer and cancer treatment. The OSW facilitates the development of support services and programs designed to achieve optimal outcomes for cancer patients and their families. The OSW provides expertise to the Cancer Committee, community, and physicians on psychosocial needs and resources available for cancer patients, families and caregivers. This healthcare professional establishes trust with a diverse population of cancer patients to improve their navigation of support and resources.

Location: Holy Cross Health has two hospitals and multiple healthcare centers all a short driving distance from Washington DC and Baltimore, MD

Supports the Mission of Trinity Health and Holy Cross Hospital.

Supports the Strategic and Operational Plans for the Holy Cross Cancer Institute.

Description:

  • Reporting to the Cancer Center Director

  • The Oncology Social Worker will provide assessment (distress screenings), counseling, referral and additional planning services to adult groups of oncology patients treated at Holy Cross facilities, while also providing supportive services to patients and their families.

  • OSW will manage Oncology Referrals and outpatient oncology patients. The OSW assists in providing guidance to patients to overcome barriers related to Oncology Care.

Responsibilities:

  • The Oncology Social Worker is focused on improving the quality of life for cancer patients and their families using community-based services.

  • Reviewed clinical assessments and determining appropriate levels of care, determining if additional clinical services are needed for infants to elderly patient population.

  • Effectively handled member crisis calls by identifying risk, ensuring safety, and coordinating timely access to care.

What you will need:

  • State of Maryland LSWA, LGSW, LCSW or LCSW-C licensure (or license eligible).

  • Bachelors or Master's Degree in Social Work.

  • One year of social work experience in an acute-care setting preferred. Demonstrated ability to work with all age groups of patients, with an emphasis on adult and geriatric patients. Able to communicate effectively.
