Job Description
This position's primary role is to provide academic advising to an assigned caseload of students. The advisor will foster student success by:
Advising and monitoring students in regard to curriculum requirements, academic rules, policies, and procedures, and progress toward degree completion; assisting students with their academic plans and their personal, educational, and career goal development; and acting as advocate and resource mentor.
Teach two sections of a First Year Seminar course per academic year and/or collaborate, design and implement curricula and strategies as they relate to a First Year Seminar Course.
Serve as the primary intervention contact at the college for Early Alerts. Provide support and follow through with faculty, students, and staff to identify and execute needed Early Alert interventions.
Meet with students who are returning from academic suspension or dismissal, on probation, and others to discuss methods of increasing the likelihood of their success.
Serve as a resource for faculty and staff in matters related to academic services.
Act as a liaison between the student and faculty, staff, and administration and serve as a liaison and resource to other offices and colleges
Submit potential course substitutions, with accompanying rationale, to the Registrar and appropriate Dean for review and approval
Represent the College at on- and off-campus recruiting events and on various committees related to student issues
Update advising and promotional material according to approved changes
Assist in the design and maintenance of the advising information in college website and other media
Perform similar or related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's degree from an accredited institution;
Prior work experience working with students in a higher education setting related to advising, student support or student development;
Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills;
Strong organizational ability with attention to detail and accuracy;
Proficiency using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other office technology.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
At least two years' experience working in an advising capacity in higher education; experience with EAB SSC Campus;
Working knowledge of computerized registration and degree audit systems;
Experience interpreting and administering academic policies.
