Job Description

Under general supervision, instructs students grades K-5 in visual arts, social, behavioral and other educational skill areas.

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Education. TN State licensure required.

Experience: 2-3 years teaching experience in art preferred.

Qualifications: Demonstrates excellent personal art skills, modeling the life of a Christian Artist reflecting the Creator Artist.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Utilize an adopted course of study, instructional program guidelines, and other materials in planning and developing lesson plans
  • Pursue a variety of methodology in teaching and instructing pupils, including lectures, demonstrations, discussions and laboratory experiences
  • Conduct teaching and instructional activities, using appropriate equipment, materials, books, art materials, etc.
  • Provides instruction, which infuses God's Word
  • Review, analyze and evaluate the history, background and assessment of pupils in designing instructional programs to meet individual educational needs
  • Provide group and individual instruction to motivate students and effectively utilize the time available for instructional activities
  • Maintain appropriate standards of student behavior, using behavioral management strategies and techniques, including positive reinforcement and behavior shaping procedures
  • Review, analyze, evaluate and report student academic, social and emotional growth
  • Counsel, confer with and communicate with parents and administrators regarding student progress, and in the interpretation of the educational program
  • Cooperatively pursue alternative solutions to ameliorate student learning problems, and to enhance expanded academic, social and emotional growth opportunities
  • Select and requisition appropriate educational supplies, materials, equipment and learning aids
  • Perform a variety of non-instructional duties, including curriculum and instructional development activities, student supervision and consultation activities
  • Provide a motivating and stimulating learning environment
  • Follow safety procedures and written and verbal instructions
  • Work effectively with staff, students and the public
  • Work autonomously
  • Organize tasks, set priorities and meet deadlines, manage multiple tasks

Job Related Skills:

  • Knowledge of principles, methods and current developments in the academic discipline.
  • Knowledge of instructional strategies and techniques appropriate to teaching the courses assigned.
  • Ability to advise, instruct, manage, motivate, and evaluate students.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to effectively and appropriately integrate technology into the teaching and learning process.
  • Ability to successfully interact with students, other educators and educational institution representatives, and the general public in a professional manner.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in course design and to teach interdisciplinary and topical courses.
  • Strong classroom management and organizational skills.
